Photographer's Note

This is a continuation of my photo, Chain Rock.

Known as The Battery, it is a small fishing village within the boundary of the City of St.John's, Newfoundland.

If you look closely at the waters edge, you will see buildings of various sizes. These buildings are common along the shores of Newfoundland and are known as Stages. Stages are used by fishermen to store fishing gear, and to clean and process the catch of the day. During the winter, coal and some food items (mainly salted fish and meats) were also stored there.

I like the fall colours of this photo as compared to my other photo Chain Rock, it seems to match the colourful homes and personalities that live along the steep banks of Signal Hill and at the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean
