Indeed difficult to believe that such an idilic country scene could be only a few minutes from the city.The mist has given a wonderful soft texture and the pastel colours are very attractive.Nice warm light to bring out the orange/brown/red.May have given a touch more depth to avoid the sightly indecisive cut.A true autumn scene...TFS.

The three 'layers' of sky,woodland and foreground are well balanced in this composition and the colours are very natural.
The slight mistiness adds to the feeling of calm.
Your note on the area is very illuminating - if rather depressing - as it repeats the fate of so many once fertile and lovely places. We must make the most of what remains!

Fall colors showing in patches and the farmland make an attractive composition. My intuition would be to go for a horizontal view but with that sky vertical works well. The mist adds to the mood. Regards,

The light is beautiful and the slight mistiness adds a lovely atmosphere. Good use of the stubble to lead the eye into the scene. The problems in your note are being repeated almost everywhere. Projected population figures just released in the UK make scary reading as we are already over-crowded.

Nice shot, with a layered appearance because of the relatively long lens. The light has a very painterly look to it, soft and inviting, which gives this a lot of appeal. Excellent work!

Hi John,
An image with great mood and perfect atmosphere. The house is just a bit visable but just enough to see it as a focuspoint. The lines of the field in the foreground make depth and create a nice barrier to the already colourful trees on the second row. On top that soft blue hazy sky which ends up with a very nice photo.
Good composed piece of work, evry nice.

It seems you have no tripod, because this is really an image to make it in f16 for maximum sharpness from front to back.

The composition is lovely and I like the diagonals formed by the stubble which lead us to the trees which are beginning to reveal their autumn colour. The scene is one of tranquillity.

Hi John, nice foggy view with this white house placed perfectly in the frame as it marks a transition between the field and the forest. Light is great here; maybe a narrower aperture would have helped to deepen the field and to get also the foreground in focus...

This image has a variety of pleasing colours and tones. I like the placement of the house as a focal point and the sky has interest in that the horizontal clouds oppose the vertical stalks in the field.

Hello John,

This is one of those landscape shots that is optimized by a vertical format. The juxtaposition of the interesting cloud formation and the well cultivated fields makes it colorful, and the note brings it all into perspective.

Lovely. and sad as I read the note, to see so many of our best farmland going away for houses which cold be build in other places.
Here, we have a zoning law protecting them, inperfect law, as depending who you are, you could get them dezoned!At least, the domage is limited or slowe down.
I see that you had some difficult time with the light management, as the house and a few clouds are overexposed.Metering or focusing on the white of the house, and possibly, entering a -1/3 correction will do the trick.
Othertimes, I have noticed that the PP will create some overexposition where there was none before.
I like the pastoral look and the feeling of peace that comes out of the composition, with the light warming the earth colors of fall.Good idea not to center the house.

John, why f/5.6? as f/11 to 15 will have given more depth.

a wonderful atmosphere that you captured here with some light fog giving an almost gelatine view. The alternating light and shadow in the front and the strong colors in the background with gorgeous clouds are a real eye spoiler.

Hi John,
there is something wrong in the foreground. I like the whole scene, the light is beautiful, it's relaxing, but I always come back to the foreground. Were you driving? Or is it really that the aperture was wide? I would suggest a narrower aperture then. anyway, as you certainly know, a narrower aperture is always advised in landscape shots...
