A classic view of this famous cove located 43 kilometres from Halifax. The cove typifies in many way the character of the multitude of small fishing villages located in Nova Scotia and particularly on the Chebucto Peninsula.
The village was founded in 1811 when a land grant was issued by the province to six families of German descent. These first settlers relied upon fishing as their main occupation, but carried on some farming where the soil was fertile. This cove, with its peculiar granite outcroppings and outstanding lighthouse, draws artists, photographers, and tourists from all over the world.

Your composition is great here showing us this idealic maritime village including the boats and reflections. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.
Seiei (426) 2007-10-18 18:00
Very nice compisition, poetic. The reflect give us a quiet feeling.
gneufeld (15890) 2007-10-18 18:02
A very classic fishing village capture expertly composed and perfectly presented. The buildings have an aire of age and experience but blend nicely with colors and natural woods to make this a very pleasing image. The reflections and the subdued sky combine to sandwich this as a keeper. Great work John, and TFS. Gerald

dareco (17134) 2007-10-18 18:32

Very dynamic composition, good light.Great colours and lovely perspective.
AROBN54 (11473) 2007-10-18 20:30
Nova Scotia has to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited and you have done it wonderful justice. The light there is just awesome. Your colors are perfect and so natural looking and the detail is excellent. You've done a great job with the composition and the reflections are lovely. All I miss is the creaking of the boats and the seagulls crying. Great shot!! Kind regards,
grantlp (2113) 2007-10-18 20:42
This seems like such a peaceful image with fantastic lighting. The composition is great and to me, the red boat and reflection is the true "heart"of the photo. Well done.
bostankorkulugu (42206) 2007-10-18 21:01
superb image with all the reflections in vivid colours... the compo looks a bit tilted to the right and the pic is a bit small but still a great shot john... congrats...
leo61 (0) 2007-10-18 21:46
You captured a nice scene with these wooden houses and the red boat.Great POV,well contrasting colors and nice reflections.A great shot and the squareformat was a good choice.
Amphitrite (1716) 2007-10-18 22:02
Nice colors and composition.
pasternak (15181) 2007-10-18 22:09
This is a beauty, John, the mirror effect is fantastic, the square format with the 1:1 frame division strenghtens this effect, the refections are just a little bit darker than the "originals"... A pleasant view!
delic (6735) 2007-10-18 22:19
Wonderful reflection, and the whole scenery is so relaxing. I am not sure if I like the square format here, but I definitely like the contrast by the red. There seems to be a tilt to the right. It's hard to tell because some houses appear to be built that way. Regards,
Hendrika (655) 2007-10-18 22:34
Nothing wrong with classic view - it's excellent very crisp and clear details, lovely atmosphere, really enjoyable.
jjcordier (78388) 2007-10-18 22:41
Tout me séduit dans cette superbe photo : la composition avec les beaux reflets, la lumière, les couleurs et le choix du format carré. Une belle réussite!
macondo (18623) 2007-10-19 0:10
A very fine quality photo combining these interesting raised cottages with the the red of the boat and buoy. The square format is quite effective here. Nice sky, nice reflection, great colours, the boat's prow in the foreground a classic touch.
Dpbours (222) 2007-10-19 0:21
Nice view you're presenting here to us. I can see why I'd make the extra kilometers to get this view when I'd be in the neighbourhood as a photographer. I like shots like this, especially when they come with an interesting note like this one! Thanks for sharing!
Graal (99762) 2007-10-19 1:30
unusual place, fine quality and composition, interesting informations. Good work.
snunney (88944) 2007-10-19 1:39
A very nice composition of this little fishing village. Good point of view and excellent light resulting in some fine reflections. Very good clarity.
vincz (19113) 2007-10-19 1:58
Very calm with very pleasant tones. The red boat and its reflection on the sea really gives a good balance to the composition with all these wooden houses.
ChrisJ (103503) 2007-10-19 2:03
A marvellous harbourside scene, with superb sharpness, colour & reflections. I like the colour opposition between the red boat & blue sky. Tfs!
vedra (0) 2007-10-19 2:13
When the water surface is perfectly still, the images in my opinion appear like frozen in time, so is this one, with these likeable wooden houses framed by the blue sky and water. I especially like the red coloured boat in the foreground, which enlightens the whole scene.
AiresSantos (56155) 2007-10-19 2:15
Very nice composition with excellent colours and light.
I also like your POV and reflections. Very well framed and done
Have a nice weekend
feather (51130) 2007-10-19 3:03
The beautiful light and the still water have combined to make the reflections stunning. The composition works very well by placing the red boat on the bottom left third. No doubt the lines of these old wooden buldings are not reliably straight, but I do think there is a slight tilt. Nevertheless this is a beautiful well-crafted image.
carper (96) 2007-10-19 3:19
a fine one John,
a fantastic sharpnes here, good pov and the red is doing very well in the blue shot, good photojob here, have a nice day.
hdl (6995) 2007-10-19 4:31
This looks like a very pleasant place; the picture gives me a feeling of calmness. Lovely houses, attractive colour combinations and a good photographer on the right spot make this a picture you look at more than once.
Fis2 (89325) 2007-10-19 4:44
Very curious place. I like the frame and reflection in water. Interesting architecture. Well done.
John_F_Kennedy (43379) 2007-10-19 5:17
This looks to be a pretty nice place. Very picturesque scenery. I like such old wooden house and the way the reflection is captured. Well done.
markstaples (15670) 2007-10-19 5:43
The square format seems to work well here. The reflections are very clear and the colours are nice and rich without being overpowering.
Dyerco (10185) 2007-10-19 7:54
A nice use of a triangle formed by the FG red boat, the boathouse and the BG building and dock. The red boat forms a strong focal point and our eye moves the the other parts of the image. Good DOF and exposure is spot on.
Paolo (41222) 2007-10-19 7:56
Hi John, excellent one, with the old building on the harbour, the red boat and the dead water.
excellent colours, exposure and composition.
TopGeo (38206) 2007-10-19 8:30
Hi John, This point as him you impressed is as swinged between sky and sea. The reflections I like also the calm of landscape. It is a marvellous scene balanced and very interesting.I like this excellent choice with
noborders (1010) 2007-10-19 9:01
This place does not seem rich or prosperous, yet the fantasy of the wooden construction gives it an undeniable charm, never mind for the electric wiring in the BG... I like it !
Photo65Net (43120) 2007-10-19 9:49
Amazing colors and tones you caught here !
I like thje soft blue and red, providing nice contrasts.
A beautiful one,
chrisnet (21864) 2007-10-19 10:01
Lovely reflection here, I like the red color of the boat in the foreground and the reflections are stunning.
Cormac (26563) 2007-10-19 10:18
There's a reason why this place is so famous and photographed so often - it's rustic beauty is irresistable! Great shot, with wonderful texture and tonality, and of course a perfect reflection never hurts either! I find the old, beat-up and peeling places like this far more interesting than new and perfectly maintained places, because they really show character. Excellent!
pboehringer (770) 2007-10-19 10:45
the composition, colors, light looks all very good and attractive, but I have that terrible feeling of a significant tilt to the right.
JCG (35129) 2007-10-19 11:24
Very attractive fisherman's village. It is places as those that I like very much, we imagine the quiet life and at the rate of the seasons. Colors and neatness of the image are superb. The reflection is magnificent. Bravo John.
With all my friendships and a good WE,
gilou530 (34) 2007-10-19 12:02

Ann75 (0) 2007-10-19 12:14
Great shot with a beautiful POV! The lighting is great, the colors are wonderful and I love the reflections! Great compositon with good clarity and details! Great work, John!
Gerrit (50880) 2007-10-19 14:04
appealing picture with the very 'nordic' wooden houses. The red and the positioning of the ship with its reflections are the eyecatchers. Beuatiful.
Henryk_Bilor (20799) 2007-10-19 15:42
Great light. Nice colours, composition and reflections of this old village.
plimrn (21344) 2007-10-19 18:37
Ah Peggy's Cove!! Larry remembers that this was one of his mother's favorite places. The sunlight and shadow play with the boat and its reflection make reverse angles of red and black with the big red mooring ball. The classic NS fishing village with the widely scattered cottages, the red church steeple and the rocky shoreline makes a great background for this graphic treat.
Zelanda (5692) 2007-10-19 19:11
Estupenda composición con una luz, colores y definición excelentes.
cessy (13647) 2007-10-19 22:29
the houses look funny, they were scatered and not in uniform
the boat giving accent to the picture
and the blue sky and blue water make a very nice composition
have a nice week end
batalay (36709) 2007-10-19 22:38
The red boat offers a magnificent highlight to this bucolic cove. A first class photo, and a short but informative note.
Have a good weekend,
PixelTerror (0) 2007-10-20 8:14
I'm not too convinced by the square format but the place is superb and this view including reflection lovely, the boat providing foreground and that nice red touch is a definite bonus in the picture.
Have a nice day,
PLD_images (7149) 2007-10-20 9:51
As you know the name of this cove brings a very different feeling that your photo offers. It's nice to see it from a point of view of beauty and calm. Nicely chosen point of view and frame.
Have a nice weekend - Paul

Magnifiques reflets de ce bateau et de ces maisons, dans cette eau limpide ou même le ciel se reflète. Jolies couleurs très bonne lumière, joli ce petit village avec ces maisons sur pilotis.
Mafo (1339) 2007-10-20 15:19
Beautiful work, lovely composition, nice colors and reflection in the water. I like a contrast between wooden houses and red boat.
Tue (28368) 2007-10-20 15:58
A very nice view of this little harbour. The colours and light are both very pleasant and I really love the reflections in the calm water. The composition is also great, thanks for sharing! Very well done!
Cricri (110607) 2007-10-21 0:34
Quelle merveilleuse lumiére qui donne des reflets net et préçis, des couleurs douces et belles, trés joli, compliment
Have a nice sunday for you
besnard (54797) 2007-10-21 1:00
jhm (143429) 2007-10-21 3:54
You play very nice with light and shadows.
Through the quiet moment without wind we get an wonderful reflection and a nice view about the small village. Very well done. TFS.
Have a nice sunday,
baba_flies (8829) 2007-10-21 6:14
Hello John! When I see Nova Scotia I have at least to sneak in and have a brief look as I have spent some summers and even one November in this part of the world and I am always surprised but also happy that it is not more visited and overrun by tourists. I find you have mastered this NS icon very well and belongs to my favorite TE takes of this pretty little village. I especially like the red boat used as your foreground giving an interesting contrast to the otherwise blue-grey tones. I have some friends living close to this place and they were the sad witnesses of the Swissair crash some years ago. Our friend was on the phone when he heard a strange noise. The rest is history. But let's enjoy the beauty of this photo ... have a great Sunday, Barbara.
pcp (3394) 2007-10-21 10:50

Bonsoir, cher John,
L'on comprend pourquoi les artistes sont attirés par ce paysage, qui a su garder toute sa magie.
La beauté de l'image est remarquable.

Good composition,colors and framing.Great reflections...
anesugur (18789) 2007-10-21 13:51
The scene is just wonderful.
Good reflections and sharpness.
The lighting and colors are great with nice POV.
Best wishes. Uğur
alvaraalto (6177) 2007-10-21 14:21
I think there is some magic in this fine composition. All the houses have their own position, independent from the other houses and it looks to me as if they all have their own story. Maybe only the boat knows them all.
singuanti (15250) 2007-10-21 19:46
Hi John. You had the perfect POV to make use of that great light. My eyes are drawn to the excellent textures and sharpness on the front of the red boat. This shot is helped tremendously by not having any overly new boats or houses anywhere in the shot. But you can they take care of everything with pride. Another most impressive shot John!!
salvator (19102) 2007-10-22 2:12
Superb composition with wonderful colors and details. The blue of the sky and sea, and the reflections on the still water are superb. The clarity and sharpnes is impressive.
best regards. Salvator.
evanrizo (456) 2007-10-22 4:03
Hi John, a smaller frame but technical the photo is perfect, the balance is very very good, light balance and details.
I will come back..
claudeD (35029) 2007-10-22 5:29
very good composition and colors for this shot.I like the reflections in the water.Very well done.
I have a friend of mine who was there during summer and he sent me a postcard from the lighthouse of Peggys Cove...
With regards from Luxembourg
Budapestman (82620) 2007-10-22 10:16
Fascinating and peaceful place, I like the beautiful lights and the splendid composition. Colours are very fine, clarity is perfect. Very harmonious and soothing image, I like it very much. Have a nice week
captainsgirl (3448) 2007-10-22 12:20
So this is the cove that every beach town that I've been to names their shops after? :o) I see why, its beautiful! Love the East Coast Beach homes and those awesome reflections . Amazing color, oh I really really need one of those polarizers..:o) TFS
Scharan (14144) 2007-10-22 18:13
Lindíssima foto, parece um quadro de pintura...as cores são excelentes e a composição está muito bonita. Os reflexos são fantásticos, parabéns!
cam (9041) 2007-10-23 4:57
A classic stop for all travellers going through Nova Scotia and a must have photo.
Yours, is a good composition that is showing the environment, the details of the architecture of the village,, where its survival was, on the fishing boats and the church in the back, overlooking life on earth.
Looks like a painting.
I see on this photo and the previous ones, that you are not at ease with the 20D, and getting good results.
Have a good week
jemaflor (88737) 2007-10-23 10:12
Nice calm water to give a perfect mirror effect, well seen this composition with boat and wooden houses, good sharpness and colours.
bertolucci (13362) 2007-10-23 11:44
Hi John. This is beautiful and strong. The red/blue contrast jumps of the screen and the velvetty water and reflection is fine too. Due to your angke of taken we really get a feel of the total gestalt of this cove and arrangement of boats and the elementally shaped houses is nicely rhythmic. Lovely work, I enjoy this one a lot!
Have a fine evening,
aloyho (6798) 2007-10-23 20:05
I really enjoyed this fishing village as I grew up in a similar environment. The juxtaposition of the houses created interesting space and depth while the red boat provided the necessary contrast to pull our attention to the scene. I also like the slight ripples changing the tempo of the otherwise very calm and quiet atmosphere. Well done!!
Have a great day ahead.
Greg1949 (9011) 2007-10-24 19:34
John, this is a magnificent image, great everything, you can really feel the cold of the water, I'll bet the air smelled wonderful. Great capture.
izmirli (3987) 2007-10-26 8:55
merhaba dear john
wonderful colours and interesting houses.wonderful composition and reflections.
coco (30439) 2007-10-30 0:55
Very simple but good landscape in square format.
The subject is good and also the composition.
The exposure and the reflections over the water give us a wonderful view.
jaywalker (16101) 2007-10-31 10:33
Hi John, What a great little cove, the wooden huts look very much in place & give the photo corrector, wonderful reflections on the still water, love the square framing, TFS, kind regards Wilson.
Stepan (27210) 2007-11-02 12:14
Looks a little like a lost world, especially because of the "tilted" floating house. The square frame is OK here and the red spot (with the boat) provides contrast. Well composed...
jmcl (14535) 2007-11-04 20:38
This has a tremendous feel .. this reflected rustic world framed between the blues of the sky and water .. tremendous.
Emile (20352) 2007-11-09 12:45
Excellent composition with a beautiful fishing village and an amazing reflection. Wonderful colors and sharpness. Good POV.
Well done. TFS.
