Photographer’s Note
Tech data: Canon 5D, Canon 17-40L @ 19mm, 12 sec F22, 2 stop full ND, Heliopan Polarizer
For the second weekend in a row I went camping in the beautiful Mont-Tremblant. Unfortunately in three days I only got one sunrise and the clouds weren't really present to make it a spectacular one. so I opted for a conventional reflection. As soon as the sun started to illuminate that distant peak I knew that the time was right. I used a 2 stop hard ND filter to increase exposure time to my shot adding movement in the clouds and also a little more drama to the final result.

Hi Pat,
an amazing scene, nature at it´s best. Do you have also detail shots of the grasses coming out of the water ? Nice structures to see...
Cheers from Austria, chris

What a fantastic piece of work! The colour is rich and saturated without going over the top, and the lighting is great too, with the sun just kissing the top of the hills. I like the composition too, very well balanced, and those pieces of grass at the lower left add so much to this. Little touches like that really make the difference between a good shot and a great one. Superb, as usual!

hi Pat
nice, well taken picture for everyone who likes stuff like that (not me). good idea with longer exposure to have the clouds movement and you were lucky there wasn't wind to move the grasses. Usually I don't like CPL with a wider angles and here is great example why. sky (and reflection) looks like taken with finger on the lens and tonality of the sky isn't perfect after post processing (or maybe it is my display in work).
I hope you don't mind but I always write honestly and have seen a lot of much much better photos from you
best wishes

Hi Pat,
I admire your photos and this one is perfect, too. But I'm writing about something else: In your website, there is an amazing photo in the artist's profile section (the third from the top). Is that you? How did you climb there?! It look sooo scary. I love that photo a lot.
Regards from Turkey.

Hi Pat,
I really like the range of bold blue and well saturated colors. I especially like the golden hue over the water in the reflection from the colorful treed ridge. Very very nice and most pleasing to look at. Congratulations and TFs. Gerald

It's nice to see that someone as talented as you also like to use a centered horizon perspective. I know that rules are meant to be broken but I actually see that being applied very very rarely by "serious" landscape photographers like yourself. I also like to use them when I find that the balance achieved by it completely justifies the message and the emotions being transmitted. I like what you've done here. I don't mind the uneven polarizer effect - after all is take it or leave it when using wide angles - and I am glad you decided to keep a lot of detail on those trees. The gentle reeds on the bottom left help maintaining some interest in the foreground section. Colors and reflection are wonderful. A great photo.

Hi Pat,
This is a stunning photo, with great colour saturation and wonderful details such as the reeds in the foreground. Great colours on the sunlit mountain.
Did you use the neutral density filter simply to get a longer exposure to get the movement of clouds in the photo? Was the exposure time 12 seconds, or 1/12 of a second?

Using ND Grey you have achieved fantastic balance between the sky and the bottom of the scene, what's more sunlight on the edges of the trees leeds the eye inside the frame... As I can see Canada has fantastic landscape places to taken the great shots. Great result. Best regards. Mac.

Hey Pat,
Perfect lighting, the contrast is amazing, the orange sun gives that 'ummph' over the horizon, clear weather and unpolluted air I can breath in this photograpgh. Spectacular reflection too lol.
All the best!

I told you I'm back !
Quite some talents in your gallery, you're the king with your tripod as a scepter !
I pick up this one since having lived in ottawa for a couple of years, a shot of Mont Tremblant is still very evocative to me
Cheers
Patrick
