Photographer’s Note

A noria is a pump with an endless chain and a series of buckets used to raise water from a lower field to a higher one. Depending on thier size, norias were operated with treadles or cranks, or turned by animal or water power. They have gradually been replaced by gasoline and electric pumps.

This noria is only to illustrate it's operation; it is not actually working.

(it can be seen in the chinese garden part of the botanical gardens of Montreal, very nice place to spend a whole day to visit!)
