Photographer’s Note
In summer, when restaurant and kitchen windows are wide open, our canine friends do not always like to move away from the delicious smell of roasts and barbecues drifting out to the streets... I caught this woman desperately trying to keep walking past the Black Tomato Restaurant while her pug was obviously having other hopes or plans :)

Hi Sarolta,
This is so good!
I like the read of several histories here.
The woman, trying to do her job of dragging the dog, the dog by himself, and the men behind the window in his own business.
And all that in a clean and simple composition.
My compliments,
JM

fantastic - that is a decisive moment captured to a T - the triangle of tensions is perfectly framed - oK one might argue for a closer crop and of course it is there post partum...but the truth is the context places them beautifully.........wonderful moment Hobbit!!!! A really wonderful moment!!!

A complicated scene taht is not getting the "traction" here it deserves, dear Sasa. Perhaps its very complexity is to blame... You see for me the dog pulling back is the easy part but perhaps even more significant is the middle figure, the man half tuirning to watch the beautiful woman running. He doesn't see or "feel" the dog but a whiff of scented golden hair has passed through his grease-stained mind already and he too wants to retain her, for a moment...
I read all this into this fine Elliott Erwitt caliber shot.
Just so you know I'm really, really watching.
Best,
Francis
ps My friend and extraordinary gentleman Kev Ryan has got it all of course, and before me too, but I thought I'd add a few twists to it.

yeah indeed a great decisive moment.. underrated... agree with kev abt a closer crop, though not an easy decision, that window is impressive and rather rare for n. am.... wish perhaps some more sharpness (maybe just my monitor at work...)... agreat canine photo...

Hi Sasa,
How do you like Elliott Erwitt? :)
This one is reminiscent of his photos with dogs and humans, with this charm, wit and humor.
Conceptually one of your best imho...
Cheers,

Hi Sarolta
Belle composition!
Le chien , la femme et le commerçant crée un sujet trés original et difficile à restituer.
Bravo!

Great moment you captured here Sarolta - the clash of wills between woman and dog makes for a funny image, and I like how the man in the restaurant appears to be looking at the goings-on outside.
Still, I think it would have worked better if you'd shifted the framing to the right a bit. Leaving more space in front of the woman than behind would have worked better and would would also have allowed you to include the whole of the sign on the wall.
Cheers,
Ben

The dog must be used to have something over there. Or, most likely he was answering to a call behind him. And the guy inside, did he spotted you? Anyway, the picture is great with a very good B&W. We are so used to your excellent work that we do not expect anything less than excellent. Well done.

Funny moment caught here, which wasn't so obvious to me at first. Both actions of the dog and woman are strong, one clearly pulling and the dog clearly resisting. Maybe would be improved by having the man in the window more prominent in the shot, but don't think theres anything you could have done to improve that.

Hi Sasa,
The pose of the dog just makes that an imaginary smell of fresh roast is coming out of the window and straight into the dog's nose, like it's only possible in cartoons. Great composition to start the weekend! But I'm also wondering like Ben how a tighter crop would have looked ;-).
Greetings, Dennis

Hi Sasa,
ah ah ah, this is why I don't want a pet :)
Not only a daily life shot but a real decisive moment !
The scene was nice but the man looking outside adds something more.
Well done, excellent timing

Hi Sasa,
Funny shot, showing very well the fight between the two subject. The open window and the reflection in the glass is a very good addition. Perfect timing!
Nice weekend,
Angel.

Hi Sasa,
Well, just got my 85mm 1.2L, what a beast...
Just spend a few hours with a great street photographer and talked about you, the way you describe the world through your images. I mean, heck, how in the hell are you so good in capturing life? his is just amasing

You always manage to catch the perfect moment, Sasa! All the angles are just right--the dog's leg and body, the woman's arms. And I like the guy inside the restaurant looking out at you. Probably he wonders what you're shooting. I don't mind the fact she seems to be leaving the frame--that's the idea, she wants to go and the dog doesn't! Regards, Ken.

LOL!
Love the doggy pulling in the opposite direction,
street lamp and the restaurant's sign, together
with the scale in the window.
The guy inside seems to be aware that something's
going on outside...
I wish you turned your camera just a little bit
to the right, but I understand it was more
important to capture the moment, wasn't it?
Cheers,
Robi

Sasa,
read some of the critiques and some are spot on, others are hopeless as to what is a classic Elliott Erwitt composition. Another excellent observation. Ignore the put the pov here there brigade, this is class.

Hi Sarolta,
I really like the compo.... great tension and movement. It's a great capture!
As far as cropping is concerned... maybe a little but not really necessary.

Hi Sasa,
This image really reflects your sense of humour. Who else could have gotten a moment like this except you? The triangle formed by the “rebellious dog-determined woman-curious man” is really superb. The image is greatly composed and many details make it very interesting, such as the big window with the weight balance showing up, the reflections of the trees on the window, the texture of the stone wall... Very well done Sasa!

Hi Sasa.
This photo is very funny (the note too) and here I love the vertical composition (enhances the window and, then, all the scene) and also I love the black and white.
Well seen and thanks for sharing.

I have to say that I love each scene of this shot. Owner of dog wants to continue her way, and as you said and the little dog has totally different plans. I love the reflecting window glass of the restaurant. It gives a shining air to the shot and of course we cannot forget the man in the restaurant. Maybe hearing the little noises of the little dogs.
Great composition.
Well seen and expertly executed!
