Photos

This shot is taken from the 6th deck of the car-ferry from Vancouver Island to a ferry port near Vancouver. At this time the sun had only just gone down so I didn't need to use a higher ISO setting if I used the lens wide open at f/2.8. And while I've used levels to boost the contrast and remove the blue tinge, I didn't add a vignette. For once :)

--- A little context ---
Due to filming in Victoria, the bus was so late I almost missed this ferry (no, this is not a picture of the ferry to Tsawwassen from Sydney BC, because that's the ferry I was standing on). I had to sprint for the ferry with my 4 bags. And what were they filming? No idea, but ironically it involved a bus reversing and pulling forward over and over again. While I waited for the real bus to turn up. Kind of like they were taunting me. Perhaps they were.

I had been underwhelmed with the clipper coming over from Seattle to Victoria, as it was raining, or foggy, or both, in different proportions for different parts of the trip. Everyone (well, my friends in Seattle) said that the trip would be stunning. But that would only have happened if I'd stood outside in the spray, tripped and hit my head on the railing. As it happens I did stand outside in the spray and trip, but I didn't stun myself. Disappointing, narratively speaking.

So I was very pleased that the 90 minute trip from Vancouver Island to mainland BC was clear so that I could get some shots of the sunset. I don't know what ferry this is that I'm taking a photo of, but there are quite a lot of ferries going between the various islands here. Much more exciting than a straight sea-crossing, as there are channels to be navigated. Turns and everything :)

I stayed on the top deck taking photos until it was too dark to get anything without the ship's vibration causing huge motion blur. After which I manhandled my 5 bags back down the external stairway and, shortly after, walked off the ferry into Tsawwassen - a place that I only know for its ferry terminal and regular buses. Sadly, there are many places that I know only that intimately. I'm sure its a charming place, but having lugged 6 bags around half the day I didn't fancy wandering off to see the sights at that moment.
