what a story, what a photo... goes straight to my favourites. just by looking at the it I can feel that endless optimism, strength and joy de vivre that she radiates. and I totally agree with your choise of B&W, I think that the colours would be somewhat distractive.
it's an overused phrase, but still - thank you for sharing.
best,
Kritine

Hello Sarolta,
What a moment it should have been! There is moments like that in life, where the unexpected take place. I hope, I truly hope, that I will keep the desire to dance when I'll be her age (if I reach her age!). Though I had to read your story to understand that she was in fact dancing, I love how the light comes from above her, especially on her hair, and the half smile on her face. It is really good that the background is that dark, making her the real queen in this photo. I'm not sure if the "portrait of a lady" should be in a workshop. One of the most pleasant portraits I have seen.
Indomitable? You bet! And graceful till the tip of her fingers. She was beautiful. You know how to show us that... Thanks to your "Indomitable" skills. :)

Hello Sarolta,
This photo is so full of pure joy. I really like the story in your note, and the moment you share with us here is very uplifting. I like the gentle smile on the woman's face, the position of her hand in the air, while the other hand rests on her walker. A very touching and beautiful moment frozen in time...

you did it again... found someone so special... filling our hearts with joy and happiness... i like the light on her, esp. on her hair against the dark background... and i like the way she moves her hand to dance in her own way... simply great sasa, thanks for this beauty...
cheers

A really beautiful play of light and shade Sasa and as you say a testament to the human spirit - there is nothing so magical or meaningful in the whole world. This image brings back a film i made some years ago of a woman called Margaret - She was in her late 50's early 60's and was a keen dancer as a girl but Margaret had a stroke and could no longer use one side of her body. I made three films - one of her dancing with flags - which she'd done as a girl, one of her dancing without the flags but mostly concentrating on her face (both pieces of music hauntingly melodic) and in the third i danced as a huge shadow over her in an arc of light as she sat in her wheelchair to some honky tonk music. At the end of the day away from the studio we were back in the care centre watching through the filming when one of the assistants sudenly shouted out "You sly old devil - you had me buttering your toast at breakfast!" - I was shocked - there was this really beautiful film and....................what the hell was going on!!?
What none of us had noticed was that Margaret, for the first time in years, was using her other hand which had just lain limp from her stroke until now - when she'd started with the flags (we'd made two) one hand was doing all the work but she was stimulated to move in memory.....by the second piece she was using her other hand and arm to dance so expressively..........one of my most magical moments as an artist.......
Good moves for you too my friend!

Brillance. How the light falls onto her side. How her hand is arched like a conductor helping the orchestra emote the adagio of...well, you get it. How you made this woman young again...the beauty shines through as well as the grace. The feminine elegance in the curve of her shoulders and the arch of her brow. It amazes me, the quality of life that you always see...you have beautiful eyes because you truly see life...it's a wonderful gift.
Chris.

It is a very moving subject, Sasa. The play of light and shadow is extraordinary and does a wonderful job in exploring this fine woman.
The closeup portrait in your first workshop is stronger, IMHO.
I actually like the potential of your second workshop quite a lot. If properly cropped to remove most of the top half, it will be a powerful and dramatic image.

There are people filled with an enormous life strenght - and here is the case. Charming old lady not doubting what is good in life and gaining it every possible moment. Some little discomfort while walking can't stand for the reason to do no dancing :)). Great photo of great human beeing. And the light here is astinishing. Greetings T.

Hi Sasa,
A Viennese ballroom would also suit her very well! Great, the combination of these two picks together and I love the portrait. God, she has a joy for life which is just wonderful. Nice, nice, nice...

'Nothing is impossible' The human spirit is a remarkable thing. I see it in my Grandad, 98 years old and sharp as a pin, though housebound now.
A wonderful capture in B&W, perfectly lit. TFS

A beautiful image and story as usual Sarolta, with obvious signs of her being lost in her own dancing.
I always find these images to be bittersweet, sad in seeing an old person thinking back to their past days perhaps wishing they were there again, but on the other side happy to see them still enjoying life.
Been doing a little bit of looking into Vancouver property and jobs....Im getting quite excited about the move over there.
Hi Sasa,
that's a pretty amazing lady you met there... It's striking to see her grace in movement, coming from such a worn out body, with such a stooped back...
And the light in this picture is also dancing. In fact, we can see that she is precisely dancing with light - there's an alternative title for you...

Tremendous shot - an affirmation of human potential in the face adversity, not to mention how beautiful this old lady is, I mean RADIANT here.
This stands as a highlight among all the portraits on TE, really quite remarkable as much for its timing as control of light.
Big Bravo!
Best,
Francis

Hi Sasa.
Somehow this photo is about life and all these photos are great. I don't know wich is the best and I love the three.
Also I think that black and white was the best option in the photo.
Thanks for sharing.

You have the impressive ability to leave me without words and make any critique I could make completely useless. This is not the first time - as you might recall - and I have the feeling that it will not be the last... Thanks for this.

Dear Sasa,
This photo is so touching... It says very much about the two souls (hers and yours). How delicate is the movement of her hand and her face expression... And you captured that vibrant moment so artistically, with the light falling on her hair and her fingers... Very inspiring image!
Excellent again!

I do love old people, like I realize you also also do. And in fact there is a sense of joy here, one that seems to be something more, kind of phylosophy of life. Beside the light is fantastic, with this shadows on her... Fantastic one dear.

Great light. Ive noticed your tendency now to go dark with your b/w shots. Considering the light you are catching its a good idea to emphasize the contrasts between lights and shadows.

Beautifully dressed old lady in the world
of her own, trespassing the real world,
or is it us, in moments like this, who trespass
these peoples' world?
Superbly recorded pose and light on her face, great
contrast and overall light. What a moment, Sasa!
Thanks for approaching her!
Robi
PS. Good WS, too - I wish you waited just a bit
so she passes the manhole.

hello Sarolta,
I have found your work through following someone else's favourites and glad I have.
I noticed your title with this image and clicked on to take a closer look as I love dance. Then I read your note and the image was given greater meaning. Your note brought a glitter of a tear to my eye. And then Kev Ryan's note to you added to my feeling of joy.
All the best picture elicit emotion and this is what this image mnd moment did for me.
thanks

Such a moving story, after reading it and looking again at her smiling face and her outburst of joy, surely I am not afraid of growing old - I've known old ladies who were more and more unbridled and exulting and radiating wisdom and madness in such a way, more assertive too - but not to the point of dancing on their own under a bridge in the heath of the summer !
:)))
One of the loveliest tales that I could find on TE, formidable !
A lesson for us all, a lesson of life and also of photography...
With admiration,
Cath.
