When I saw this young, elfish cadet in his uniform, the last thing that crossed my mind was that he was crazy about jazz. I was entirely mistaken... the following 10-15 minutes or so, while I was myself standing there, charmed like a snake by the haunting tunes the sax player brought out of his instrument, the cadet kept standing beside him, moving his hands as if in a trance, with closed eyes (in Workshop).

Hehe...
Look at him: like a space cadet :)
Charming face confronts another moody one. I like how you find out those interesting moments. It is also quite interesting because you present the place as if it were a small town only inhabited by a few individuals. Great capture of "the moment".
Congrats Sasa,
Deniz

Hi Sasa,
don't know why but the cadet instantly
reminded me of the young Dustin Hoffman!?
(especially on the one in WS!)
But what a face and pose (feet) - was
he dancing?
Nice bright duotone, with all of your
trademark elements. Good as ever!
Robi

Hi Sarolta,
A very interesting framing of this urban scene.
I like the perspective evident on the segmented lines on the floor, and the slight tilt of the picture makes the composition well balanced.
Well done and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Good morning Sasa,

Hahaha, some slight links with the young Dustin Hofman, but not too many ;-). Like the workshop picture as well, since in that one his is clearly swining a bit. I like it because of the movement, but this is composition-wise the best of the two. I'm always a sucker for diagonals in a picture (as long as it isn't the horizon). And the elf-like expression in this one is great! Nice one!

Greetings, Dennis

PS: For which service was he cadet? Police, airforce, marine, army...

another great tilted composition in sepia tones. The expression is very interesting so as his pose... Nice decisive moment.
Take care
Fred

Hi Sasa,

It's a vvery interesting shot. The attitude of these men is amazing. I like a lot this young cadet, surprised by your shot, funny, and so spontaneus and free in his attitude. And the sax player is amazing. The same tones than the wall, he seems a very great relief emerging from the house. It's very well captures and the texture in the shot is magnificent. Nice the tilt too! Thanks,

Regards,
Angel.

Very interesting composition, Sasa.
The cadet in uniform has a very unusual aspect and curious expression.
Without him, the photograph of the musician don't could be so interesting...
Unique shot, unique situation.
I like it very much.
Best wishes. Grazyna.

hello Sasa, very good capture from this cadet... he like jazz certainly, great sepia color and good tilt
thanks

This is great Sarolta; a dynamic composition and a moment well captured.
I'd like to have seen the framing shifted slightly to include the busker's sax case at bottom right, and I find that guy in shades behind the boy a bit distracting, but in such a fluid and fast moving situation I think you've done very well.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Sarolta. I feel the connection between you and them, and I like the warmth in the photo. I wonder if they were friends, or just a crazy cadet... Great street scenery to see, and congrat on how you captured them!

Hi Sasa,

what a moment you've captured in a single frame!
Everything seems to fall into place, from the expressions of the cadet, to the cool sax player and his coins, right till the woman framed by the pillar and the glass....this compo is absolutely amazing! Beautiful tones too.

I really love to learn more abt street shooting from you.

This image is top notch!

Regards,
Sebastian.

a whole gallery of portraits with not only the jazzman and the cadet, but also this guy behind the cadet and the woman between the pillar and the shop window, plus those walking in the BG... i like the light tilt , like you were in a jazzy mood too, and this cadet's attitude... only the music is missing for its perfection...

Hi Sasa,

nice moment you caught here... all that space between the two main characters actually makes it more interesting to me, more original perhaps.

I also like to look around the image and enjoy all the details and textures in every part of the photo.

Good conection caught between the two of them, though until I read the note I completely misrad his expression, seems like he's not too keen on being your subject.

Hi,

Fantastic! The swing is there. What an interesting "personage" this yong cadet. Both the WS and this one are great pictures difficult for me to say which I like most. I'm impressed by his easyness with you camera pointed at him. I hope the packing is advance and things are going fine for your moving out. Pitty you could not come for the meeting in Montreal.

Cheers,

Flavia

This is a remarkable photo of a strange moment, rarely seen under these similar circumstances. An excellent tilt. Also remarkable is the arrangement of various other people in the frame and their reflections.

Hi Sasa,
What a cool cadet. At the beginning I did not think he was dancing, I though he was putting a funny face to you...Now, I understand. I like the expression of the saxophonist. You caught him when he was just blowing his saxo. Nice way to present that little corner of the market. I agree with rigoletto, looking at your photos Ottawa appears as a very small place with only few funny inhabitants...
But maybe it is true that is small, I would say minute... :)))
Andre

Hi Sasa, i like a lot artists street...
This composition is very good, you captured a perfect moment with great time..
the conversion is wonderful!
bravoo!
ciao!
Valeria

delightful, simply delightful - they look as if the saxonist were playing some dedication for that lonely listener, and him - as if shouting orders to the musician what and how to play...
interesting how "humbly" the musician looks compared to the proud,, twisting cadet...
love the tones, here,
best, j.

Take Two with a Take Five as soundtrack by the saxophonist...excellent view Sasa, with brilliant composition, a wonderufl black and white and a funny mood.
thanks, ciao

There's plenty going on here, Sasa - the TALL musician an the SHORT cadet, very important also is the black dude coming into the scene from the left - his presenceelemntal somehow as if he OWNS the musis usurped by the gangly pretender...
One can read a lot into things that ar well wrought...
All the best from a monsoonish Tokyo,
Francis

Hello Sarolta.
You have so many great shots since I last found myself on TE. So...I figure I'll start with this one...It continues the music theme so to speak. I'll bet he thought he ruined your photo by making that face...interesting how that happens, funny faces tend to make a photo better
you know what, they CAN make a photo better...depends on the mood your in. The black outfit of the young cadet is such a benefit for your shot, it helps propel him out of the lush grey tones in your photograph.

How is everything with you, I hope all is going well?

Chris

Hi Sasa.

I have a doubt. I don't know wich one I prefer, the main picture or the WS.
Excellent shot where the expression of these faces are amazing and they are the key of the photo.

Well done.

I was sure I'd written to this one - oh well! The young guy's movement is great - I like the frozen dance of the streets you've caught here but what really captures is the contrast between styles of these two guys and the way that the effect of the music transcends the expectations of uniform in the young man's obvious engagement - great street moment - a decisive moment!

blessings on your new home Hobbit

Sasa Sasa
you and your ability to take the photo just at the right time, makes me jealous ver much :D
I would'nt even have captured these emotions with multiple shots.
Excellent diagonal in this photo ... just love the way everything seems to be blancing out.
have a nice evening and don't work too hard
laters ... sarju

Hi Sasa,

The streets of Ottawa will never be better documented since you’re scrutinized them... It seems that you’re always on the hunt for the next colourful character, the singular subject that doesn’t fit with the rest of the crowd.

You’ve made me laugh hard, reading your expression elfish cadet... I couldn’t think of a better way to describe him after reading your note. Although you were probably aiming for the musician at first, this gnome become the center of attention and steal the show. Just to see his hilarious face is enough to gaze at him and wondering what is going on in his head.

You have a keen eye for urban shot with a twist. This is another good sample of your always surprising encounter. Nice crop and tilt.

Cheers!

André

You see Sasa, this is where I always get it wrong. I have usually chopped off someones feet or worse, head ;) The guys face is a classic, what was he saying to you?

Nice tilt and compo, and, as always, a wonderful off-B/W rendering. I often wondered at your "sepia" compositions. They're not reddish brownish. Do you add cyan and magenta instead?
