Photographer’s Note
This retired man, beside whom I sit on the bus almost every morning on the way to work, reminded me only of the title and not the protagonist of Anthony Trollope's novel. He certainly is a man equipped by more than one's fair share of cheer, it seems to me, as he voraciously devours the news and enters into animated discussions (or monologues) on various subjects starting from films through (of course, seeing my Nikon) photography to the events of the world, while I still hardly can keep my eyelids open. Here he knew that I was taking shots but not when and how, so he kept up his usual habit of discussing topics he thought of sharing with me. In fact, even though I cannot be a match to his animated vigour these mornings, I would miss the cheer of this man--who probably cannot fathom anyone needing a bit of quiet space in the morning...

Very nice Sarolta,
The elongated shot, bevelled on that hard edge encompassing everything that is needed for the shot to work. Nice use of the early morning sidelighting as it creeps in through the bus window.
Its the simple things that you make art of, well done.

Your shots keep amazing me more and more. And this one is in fact an extraordinary picture. I can not imagine you crouching down in the bus to take him on photo because his eyes are not looking down. His blurred hand and finger occupying half of the frame is what I like the most, even if is expression is superb. To be that good talking with his hands he must be Italian, or maybe Portuguese!!!

You definitely caught his expressiveness really well there Hobbit - he looks like he could come from Middle Earth too somehow - some of those Hobbits are pretty chatty folks! ......I must say that kind of chatty friendliness is one of the things I've liked in Canada - a level of openness in BC for instance that was fantastic ..........his hand cuts the frame so well - the god of photography smiled mon you with this one!

Lovely shot on-the-fly, Sasa. I feel like you are re-vealuating your photography and in the meantime shooting "spontaneously", that something else, another phase, more demanding and rigorous, is just around the corner.
of course, what do I know...;o)
best,

Hello, Sasa. I rarely comment your photographs… because they are too good, and there are too many good photographs in your gallery. It is incredible, but what to say each time? It is super, it is extraordinary, it is single, it is magic? Here, a portrait very well composed, the capture of a movement of the hand in the foreground which in known as length on the man and his personality, and moreover, one sees his glance well caught… it is perfect, Sasa, it is perfect. I like it very much and my english is too poor to say what I would say.
Best regards. Grazyna.

I am glad I am seeing this in the morning. Just as if I was sharing on of those early bus rides. He seems very animated, poignant, and sharp. A well of energy as we like to say here in Portugal. The detail of the blurred hand is my favorite element in this picture. That and your brave pov. You are so close, but the bus environment is clear seen on the top. A highly effective tilt once again. Indeed a great shot!

Awesome dynamics, Sasa, it's alive and a it sure is a hard portrait to look at so early in the morning :-), I think you transferred his (sometimes inconvenient) cheer onto the picture... and I am still sleepy...
Keep it up with these tilted close crops! I'm loving it.

Hey Sasa
some will point to the face but I like his hand. That tells me all I need to know aboutt his guy. Energy, animated, very opinionatrd. That hand doesnt shout as much as it preaches. Great TIGHT POV.

A nice portrait Sarolta which captures him in full flight as he makes his point, the angle almost makes us twist our head around to straighten things up. Only thing I could suggest would be for a black and white conversion, as the colours are a bit flat to me..

And finally, hello again, Sarolta.
It is not an easy POV but looks quite interesting.
As is usual, you know how capture the people and make the best work with them.
Regards.

Excellent and animated portrait. Usually I'm drawn to a portrait because of the unique character of the subject. And he does have a lot of character. He also though reminds me in a broader sense of a number of retired guys I've known who have developed a wide range of interests and are enthusiastic about sharing their opinions. Makes me smile, this shot.

o-ho-hooo!!!
Sasa, every time when I see an image
like this one coming out of your camera,
I can't but not to think about factories
and mass production, but in an inverted
sense... whereas there products come out
uniformed, in case of your camera the only
uniformity is in a level of quality and
ability to convey communication.
Ill communication in this case, as it was of
a one-way type - but you still kept sort of
a connection with the guy on a different level,
a level he wasn't aware of being too occupied
by his own interpretation.
... also, there's something so vulnerable in
the way his wrist twists in this frame, but
may be it's just the angle...
Have a nice evening, Sasa!

It's SASA written all over it.
It's an extraordinary piece of photography.
In every possible aspect of it.
Thanks, Sasa

My dear Sasa, your portraits are special....you are able to capture the soul of the people...like in this image and with this man..
His expression is so natural, the ray of light in his face... and the great space of the hand...the composition is stunning!
Great portrait!
ciao!

For some reason, this picture tells a story all by itself. Your note definately enhances it. The pov is awesome and the subject's face is clear which is important. Looks like there was a perfect timing moment for the shutter release as his hands are well positioned and did not cover his face.

I have no idea how you have managed to capture all of his energy in this tight frame, but it is there. His hand slicing through the frame conducts the image here.
PS I presume the move is to another part of Ottawa?

Hello Sarolta,
You will start a new trend in TE: the "lap shot"! :))))
I think there is two types of persons: the ones that are already social and awake with the first blink of their eyes in the morning, and the others that takes ages before going out of their dreamy world. I'm in the second group. But, maybe there is a third one. It seems that some are not fully awake but are still able to focus rightly even in a "lap shot". You seem to be one of that species! :-))
Interesting fellow, at least, in your photo. I think the great element here is the hand. His soul is seen in that hand, moving, expressing, speaking... And you have done it perfectly. Oh! What a surprise! :)))

Oh no!
Much ado about nothing, and this is when you are still half awake...
Extroverts may easily become the nightmares of introverts, i know this very well as i am surrounded by lots of chattering figures all times of the day.
Motto of an introvert:
"OK, you're right and i love you, but please shut up!!!"
And yes: this is the perfect portrait of a Mr. Chatterly :)
Cheers,
Deniz

I guess you took this holding your camera down on your knee, right? Given that, the framing is remarkable (even if you cropped.) The way his gesturing hand fills exactly the complement of his face and shoulder is remarkable. His "animated vigour" fills the frame to bursting. Beautifully done! Regards, Ken.
