This is a section of the Nanaimo River called "the Gunbarrel", probably for the speed of the water.
Unfortunately, nearly 1 person/year drowns here either trying to swim its length or by falling in. One of the numerous warning signs is posted here a few days ago.
Although the surface current appears exciting, the boulders create underwater eddies that pull a swimmer down. |
