Photographer’s Note

Owl butterflys participating in expo “Papillons en liberté”. Jardin Botanique de Montréal. I was testing my new macro lens which is great, but will take a lot of practice and tripod for better sharper closer images…I hate tripods…

Hello Inna,
There pleases me very the repeatability of the example formed by butterflies sitting on the twig. In the background I perceive the wavy lock-bay giving splendid lights. The strong picture , well replete though reasonable colours in the interest of the greater contrast. The nicely composed work, very the quality of the picture and the interested frame box.

This is not a bad result for a first time with macro lens and i'm sure when you start using tripod you'll start enjoying taking photos with it as it makes huge difference. This photo is great formation of butterflys, well composed, well framed.

Hello Inna.
You know, I get what your saying about tripods...both the need and the hate. Interestingly enough, here, this photo seems to benefit from the lack of a tripod. It is almost shimmering from the movement blur. The background looks like a wash of melted glass, and those butterflies are about to take wing. The grey branch could be alive, the long arm of some great beast alowing for the lightest touch of your lens and these beautiful creatures.

It's good to have you back on TE with your creative works like this one.
I think macros on butterflies are of the most appealing subjects to this kind of photo and your photo clearly shows it with this 'explosion of colours' not only due to the butterflies but also caused by the beautiful colours of background. I agree with you when you say that this is not the sharpest of your photos but it's really colourful and good looking.
