I deliberately subdued the colours (save for the shrilling reds) to make the shot look a bit more like those photos of American magazines of the 70s. I was struck by this scene, this aspect of North-America... something very strange for me, still.

Very funny that she has to climb up to get her burger, the red is standing out to enhance her in the middle.
greetings
Henk

Dear Sarolta ;thanks for this beautiful picture sharing us

nothing like an Ottawa chip wagon......even though another reviewer suggested "american culture"...I suspect poutine is on the menu somewhere, and then our friends south-of-the-border would then find something different

Sarolta ????????????????????????????

Gosh...Sasa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why ??????????

Hi Sarolta

Great capture of daily life. This is totally classic north americana. Very sharp. The reds really pop. Good work.
Ben

your deliberate attempt at recreating the vintage American photos is an astounding success. At first glance I assumed this image was taken in middle America somewhere. Very well done.

Nice color! (Can't believe it's Canada and not, say, Indiana.) :-P

Well it's always a pleasure to disagree passionately with George's tastes and this image and his reaction provides bucketloads of opportunity - I like your style here - I like your composition and I like what you are aiming for as an image maker - it evokes in my mind what you are intending and that is far more important than the impassioned strait jacket George has waiting for you - maybe it's not a 'Great' work to all eyes......there is no prescribed rule set here that says Hobbbits must produce masterpieces everytime they pick up their cameras and share the results........it is such an unusual contstruction - your work on this image is superb.......and I love the way you handled George........ ;-)))))

Like you I don't have much spare time and sometimes I just find it difficult to write anymore without time to sit and savour what i'm going to write about - even if it's only a few words - I just have to visit TE and look and store up my responses for later.......this image wouldn't let me go away without responding - it grows on me all the time.

Hey remind me to run Miguel's other idea past you

best wishes Kev

This is quite a departure in style for you Sasa, though the result is laudable. It is certainly a unique interpretation, though less of your individuality imposed on it and more a direct appeal to the viewer. I like both versions, both appears to produce the same aesthetic appeal. I don't feel the same discomfort that George does. Far from it; I like it very much.
Animesh

the colours of ketchup, mustard and mayo are the true colours of the american culture together with the "coke"... so this shot has everything about it, a true mirror i think... even the overweight lady is the real miss liberty, lol!!!
why on earth is that little window so up high?

congrats sasa... a real good job as always...

have a great weekend...

korkut:D

Hi Sasa,
I like very much both of them. The colour one seems to be a scene of 70s.Great captured of the atmosphere.Beautiful work as always and rare moment.
Have a nice weekend,
Thomas

I love the colours in this shot, a Coca-Cola commercial? ;-) Maybe I'd have left some colour in the building in the background to make the desaturation a bit less obvious. I prefer this version over the sepia one. Great work!

Not your usual style, but definitely a striking and even funny image... you are right that it looks from another decade.

Notice how her pose could be quite charming if only she'd watched her diet a little better in recent years...

Though Canadian, Sasa, I think you could still regard this as classic Americana. Your selective desaturation got your 70's point right across. Fine cultural frame for the day. best, c

Oh my dear God.. That is just hidious. Hope I write that right... At least she gets some workout before the burger.

Dennis

Hi Sarolta

Nice picture to create an aura of 70s
Red colour attrated my attention.

Vikram

Ahh Sasa!!!
colour colour here! and the choice is perfect for me!!
i love this version!
GREAT IMAGE!...the woman in the middle of the red and her position are wonderful!
I love it and a fav.!
ciao!
Valeria

hello Sasa,

I like the 2 versions and it is difficult to choose. ALthough the color has my preference. It's indeed an image of "North-America", fat people, coca cola and fast food ! Her legs are an image at itself :)) great capture !!!
greetings, inn :)

Oh no, Sasa, did you desaturate my lovely
yellow mustard bottle as well?!?
I suppose I was too young in the '70s to
remember images from American magazines;
moreover, I don't think American magazines
were available localy at that time, anyway!
;-D
But there's something in this chip wagon
that I like (believe it or not)... something
similar can be still seen throughout England
but more by the road, providing both burgers
and bacon butties.
The woman obviously lives in past - otherwise
she would be wearing one of them tops that are
too short and reveal most of the padding around
her waist... like women in England, i.e.
Robi

I like this one very much. Don't really understand George's "critique"... The special quality of those reds and yellows makes this picture for me. You mentioned 70s American magazines and you well might be 100% right. I never read a magazine from those days, but this reminds me the work of those masters like Eggleston. I just don't like that grey wall in the left that much, but the right 2/3 of the image are awesome. Specially the woman standing to reach the counter. It really has an American movie flavor.

Mixed feelings about this one Sarolta. I certainly do like the right part of the shot and the 70s feel that you talk about..in fact if it wasnt for the more modern looking coke machine I'd assume it was from the 70s. Its just the desaturation work you've done on the left which I don't agree with...just one of those post processing techniques that doesnt sit with me..just a matter of personal taste :)

What a shot, Sasa! Frst thing that struck me (late I'm afraif...) is the subdued colors lke an early analog print, then the humor and the exvcellent framing. You do very well indeed in color, surely you must be tempted to do more... Of course here with the all important RED, you had little choice.
All the best,
FRancis

you are darn right , this is so 70's, i would even venture to say 50's! the overweight woman being however something definitely of the 90's and 2000's era. You have the knack to get it all in the frame! you are incredibly talented
Eric

I love your honesty in describing what your intentions were. You succeeded...it does look like a 70's advert for Coke. The menu, those mustard walls...are all in keeping with what I think you wanted to show.

Of course, it does not have "Sasa" scribbled all over it, but thats what makes your images so intersting...each one is an experiment in some form or another...this one included. Ok, its not the most visually pleasing photograph, but there is something experimental in there, which makes it visually appealing. I like the experiment.
