Photographer’s Note

Many of my friends are competitive rock climbers. This park just outside Vancouver is a gem... steep cliffs over the ocean, catching afternoon sun. The rocks are good for climbing, and many routes have great placement for gear.

Note the arbutus tree just below the climber's feet, the red barked twisty one. The arbutus exists in a small pocket in southwest BC, almost always clinging to rocks by the ocean. It is the only native broadleaf evergreen in Canada, and is my favorite tree.

Excellent perspective and composition. A little surprised it's a 50mm lens as it seems to have a wide angle feel.

A good wide angle view of your rock-climbing friend, with a great composition and POV....shows the viewer the great locations experienced by these sport enthusiasts.

Your framing is excellent with the foot really close to us!
The position of the women is very esthetic.
The "plus" in your excellent shot is the landscape behind the climber.

Hello Andrew,

Fabulous shot (scanned from a slide!?!). Where were you standing when you took the photo? Aside from the technical and artistic elements, there really are a score of questions this superb image generates. The choice of vantage point, perspective, colors and definition are all first class.

Incidentally, I just posted an image "Leonardo's Dream," in which I refer to your grandfather. Take a look when you get a chance. I am thrilled to see a number of new images from you, that I will study and review.
