Photographer's Note

Well it's tulip time in Ottawa. The tulips display a flash of foreground colour as Notre Dame Basilica (1841-43)looms in the near distance. This Greek Revival structure is the oldest surviving church in our nation's capital city. In 1848 it was named the Cathedral of the Diocese of Ottawa. It was later granted the title of Basilica. It's twin steeples were erected in 1858 and the Basilica's main claim to fame is it's ornately carved and exquisitely painted interior.
