During the recent coldsnap one of the local fishing trawlers came back from a fishing trip , listing to starboard. There was ice build-up on the riggings of the boat, more so on the starboard side than portside.

The listing is clear when one looks at the crossbad at the top of the mast, as compared to the horizon.

I see a LOT of ice in this photo....from the coating on the rocks in the background, to the ice coating on the crosshatches of the fishing trawler. It looks some COLD!!
I suppose the ice buildup CAN be a problem for those boats, and perhaps, at some point, they must chip the ice from their equipment or else face impending danger from being off-balance.

Hi Jay. Good clear nautical composition with interesting subject and note about what we are seeing. This is a place for macho men in boats by the look of this. Very good clarity and colours especially the sea and breaking waves on the distant reefs. TFS. Murray.

Hi Jay, I never understood how those guys could do that. I can't think of a colder job than fishing like this through the winter. In any case you've got a great shot here. The panorama effect works well for this ship listing at sea. The small island and birds are a nice touch.

Hi Jay,

This is very dangerous to much ice at one side, a very good clarity and colours especially the sea and breaking waves on the distant reefs. One small remark Sjaak, for a perfectly composition you must a little bit more sky take, for 1/3 and 1/3 than you get the ideal composition. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Jay!
I like this symphony in blue, with the little trawler alone on the sea with the small island and the birds! The note is interesting, but it makes me feel cold! I wouldn't have liked to be in the place of the fishermen.
Good shot anyway!
Did you take it from the shore?
