Photographer’s Note
**This is not a burning cross. This is the local baptist church which has seen fit to use neon lights.
When I first started taking photos about a year ago I visited this location and posted this photo to TrekEarth. I revisited the site a year later to try and see how I had progressed.
I decided to use a slap zoom technique to increase the mood of the image and, given the brightness, to increase the size of the cross.
PP: I used a low opacity layer and painted in black to manage the top left corner. I also used a levels layer set to normal rather than luminosity which is my normal setting. In this way, the levels layer did double duty by changing saturation and brightness values. I did consider cropping the top and bottom but that removed much of the colour compliments and the "ghost" of the church at the top.
