[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A great expanse of open field allows the wind to sweep the snow until at last it comes to rest against who knows what. Once the first few flakes of snow are caught, the accumulation just keeps on building while the wind continues to relentlessly sweep the frozen crystals over the top.
That way too are sand dunes built -- but that is another part of the world -- and another story!
Here, a snowplough cleared the drifts from the roadway and this built a new obstacle, but the wind and snow have already built a new drift, one that threatens to collapse and create a mini avalanche. Nature will have her way.
Tech: cropped, resized and reduced noise (thank you Fisher for your guidelines for that!)

I'm not really a snow person but this makes me want to build a snowman! Lovely shot. A bit "blue" so a little work in PS required to correct white balance. However, really nice shot. Kind regards, Paul.

Hello Silke,
You should send some of that snow over here. That's a nice composition with a well-written accompanying note. Great clarity and sharpness. There is a blue cast on the snow because of the sky. May also be underexposed but don't know the ISO, can't tell for sure.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hi Silke,

wonderful point of view and composition .. you have made snow and a few trees really striking .. well thought out and beautiful ..

take care,

John

Hello Silke. The picture impresses by the enormous snow quantities. The photo becomes however only interesting by the shape of the snow created by the wind. In addition the photo is outstanding composed. By the trees in the background the relations and relative importance become visible. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Great way to show what happens in our part of the world. Sure is cold too! Nicely done, I do like the evergreens included in the shot as well. TFs

Hi Silke,
great sky, light and shadows, interesting note and composition. Really winter. Well done photo.
Gr., Aleksander

Hi Silke!

Excellent winter landscape, once again! Great composition and light managment. This piece of snow in the foreground looks like a sculpture. Congratulations!

Hercules

Hi Silke,
impressive snow sculpture by nature. I like the light and shadows on the snow with so many details. The trees are a good closure before reaching the sky.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hello Silke,
Seems like you've got your fair share of snow this winter!
A simple but attractive composition, good tones in the snow topped by this beautiful February sky...
A well composed presentation!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Silke

I like the superb backlighting. Nice textures & shadows in the fg snowbank, with good sharpness & graphism of the dark trees. Tfs!

Hi Silke,
It's good you have more nice winter pics for my enjoyment :-)
It's been long since I have seen so much snow in one view, so of course I appreciate this point and the feeling it looks like a big wave. Because today I look at it at home on my new and picky screen I note that the sharpness is below the possibilities of a D70s, which is a fine camera even though I run with the competition... I believe it results from noise reduction that impacted the edges of snow and trees, for that reason and because noise is first apparent on evenly colored areas such as the sky here, it's better to apply noise reduction on a sky selection rather than on the whole photo. Another possibility is that it results from downsizing, I usually downsize in three steps with an action and use "bicubic sharper".
This is just to tell you how I'd address such details, probably on most screens the photo will look fine, and the general impression on me is mood lifting as well :-)
Have a nice week end from Elsass where the plums are blossoming,
Jean-Yves

I get your drift, however, with respect, I have to point out that sanddunes are created under a different regimen. Sure, the eolean factor is there, but grains of sand do not have the sticking power of snow or ice crystals that will "glue" together. You will never see these overhangs with sand... ;)

That said... Nice shot, all too familiar to us in the Great White North.
Tfs, Jay

Hej Silke,
Beautiful capture of these big amounts of snow. The shapes that are formed look really nice and quite impressive. The light enhances too and I like the inclusion of the trees. Good work!
Hilsen,
Lars

Bonjour Silke,
A nice point of vue of the snow drift with a beautiful blue sky, the sharpness of the snow is very good and your composition so..Well done ..
Michel

Hi Silke
beautifull, wild and pure picture with the snow and the very clear sky.
A nice picture on winter.
Excellent week end
Bertrand

hello silke . what takes my attention is the same appereance of the trees , they look so parralel and size alike . I tried to compare the size of this drift , at first sight it looks very small and not harmful in case of avalanche , but if they gather God knows what happens. nice view indeed
