Photographer’s Note
Is religion/believing about black and white? Or is there room for grey/gray?
Here we have a take on Saint David's; a small anglican church in Portuguese Cove - right along the highway called Herring Cove Road - in the middle of the community.
Unfortunately I have not been able to dig up historical information on the church yet.
Its appearance is pretty typical of the smaller
wooden churches in this area. The sidings are generally shingled, the colours black and white.
This church is a challenge as the lines are showing the effects of settling and age. I have used the foundation as the horizon, assuming it to be plumb.
Shot taken yesterday on my way into town < Halifax >.
This photo was inspired by a few series done by my friends; one from Cochrane of a little church in the Foothills. As well as an Ontario church. Yes, those are also black and white ones ... I am very fond of b&w.

PS My sharpened version is in WS. I screwed up on my upload selection.

That is a very fair question, Jay, but not one that we have space to answer here!
I like the sharpened version in your WS better than this one, of course.
But your PoV is super and the bit of blue sky helps a great deal (providing us with part of the answer too, don't you think?)

Good question re the "Is religion/believing about black and white? Or is there room for grey/gray?"
Perhaps in today's views, the gray also has a place, but likely not an answer for the black and whites seen in this photo!!
The starkness of the colors contrast nicely
with the blue of the sky............
I like the POV that you've used.....BELOW
the church building and shooting up toward the heavens....the focus seems to rise with the belfrey of the church....upward....
makes one feel humble and small when viewing this photo.

Hi Jay,
this image is absolutely made for me by the issue of plumb .. especially between the steps and the church .. the age is amplified by the aged paint on the facade and most of all by the angles of all the lines that should be "level" .. a building that speaks loudly.
well done.
take care,
John

Hoi Sjaak,
Good gedaan!
Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
John.

Dear Jay,
Religion is all about living with your own belief and creating no harm to others. It is neither Black or white nor grey its very colourful and should absorb all in its way.
good POV. i liked it as a whole.

Hello Jay,
A pleasant symmetrical composition with this little wooden church!
This is the first time I have seen a church has got a street number...
Good textures in the walls, nice details!
Greetings,

As you say the white and black of this church makes it stand out against the sky. But for myself not one of my favorite subjects. Still a good POV.
Cheers:)
