Photographer’s Note
Stranded on the shore at Campbell River this isolated rock has become a focal point for local graffiti artists - this young First Nations guy arrived just before me and before I could spot his progress had arrived on top of the rock.
It has the sense of a living being - so much so someone has painted a large eye on one side.

if anyone could portray this stone creatively it must have been you, kev...including these poles in the fg (POLES define the scale, sounds nice!)

At thumbnail size this guy is almost unnoticeable. But he makes all the difference in this shot. Without him this would be a regular shot... Like the b&w, the game of shadows crafting an incredible 3D feel on the rock and the contrast provided by the writings. Very good indeed.

Hi Kev, I like the way you composed, I think you did a great job. The person up there, the logs down here, the sea in the back, everything is necessary to balance the picture.
It does look like a very well done B&W, but I wonder about the colors that would be there... the graffiti, the blue sea, ...

Hi Kev
This rock reminds me of the Sisters Rocks near Stawell, Victoria, Australia. They are covered in graffiti like this. It's a balanced composition with the logs rendering the foreground interesting and the position of the guy perched up on top of the rock. The waves lapping give a good atmosphere too.

hello Kev,
Quite a high rock to climb. I'm always astonished how people can get grafiti on some places , i don't understand how they manage. Beautiful photo, great point of view .
best regards, inn

Very impressive shot that shows us natures strength. Interesting that there doesnt appear to be any more along the stretch of beach.
Nice use of the young guy on top and the logs below to convey the actual size of this behemoth; that encompasses the majority of the frame. I like the dedication that it receives for this capture amidst the other fundamental ingredients that make up your picture.
Kudos

hi Kev,
interesting image, and I think it is more interesting to see the boy sitting there rather than a climbing moment..he looks like a king on top of his mountain to me :)..

Man is tiny, Kev, before the immensity of nature...something like that I guess. I love the POV here, the twisted sense of scale you get from your lens.
A canny shot,
bw,
Francis
