The sod roof of this old hut suggests that the original residents of this farm had Scandinavian roots. It may even have housed the original residents but is now used only as a storage shed. The advantage of such a building is that it could be built relatively quickly of local material. But since it was generally dug into the ground (which would help keep it warm in winter and cool in summer) it was prone to flooding.
Thank you for looking and I look forward to your critiques.

It's an interesting looking structure Silke, and I like how it's shape is echoed by that of the hill in the background. I think having a bit more separation between hill and hut would have emphasised this.
The light is great, and it's direction has resulted in an absence of shadows in front of the building, which works well.
The only thing I don't like is the cyan colour cast in the sky. This is a common result of slight over-exposure with digital cameras. Setting the camera to under-expose would have given you a more natural looking blue sky.
Apart from that, it's a good shot.

For a minute I fancied myself back in L'anse aux Meadows...
Good shot of the hut.
I find the compo very interesting with the hill in the b/g echoing the shape of the rootcellar.
Only nit, the blue hue in the hills

This is a very nice piece of architecture from times gone by!
This kind of roofing has several qualities in addition to the special design, and last year a house not far from where I live was build with a sod roof! Looks good, but rather expensive these days, maybe I bring an image later...
I like the point of view here, and the fine details!

Yes it's a very strange and original architecture! It's well framed, perhaps the sky is a little bit overexposed, but it's a interesting photo. Thanks for your note too.

Are you hunting trolls ? ;-)
A simple but fine view with good angle and exposure on your subject, I like less the bright sky, which could be darkened a bit adjusting the levels on a sky selection only.
Have a nice day,

Interesting hut. Unless you have further information I'd guess also the original use of this was to storage food rather than living. Quite nice design with grass roof.
I'd crop off some of the sky.

The first thing that came to my mind was: Hunnebedden. It's a Dutch word for graves. This is how Dutch people in the far past would honour their deads in certain parts of the country. I've only read it in history books but I never actually seen one in real life. And the country I life in is so small! Your picture inspired me to go and have a look at one in the coming weeks. TFS, Gilbert

Stone fašade of hut is appears instantly in your photo. I like its wonderful texture at middle and under of green a lot. Mixed autumn colored trees are creating beautiful background. Congratulations.
PS: It's pleasant to me that you have added to your list of favorites. Thanks.

Very interesting photo with an informative note. I really like the composition and the color though a polarizer would have helped. I would crop the sky which is a bit dull.

Hello Silke. Beautifully to see again something from you to. The photo is really worth seeing. A Relikt from a time, in which one had to cool food in the summer. Well composed and also a good photo for Trekearth. Best regards, Wolfgang.
