Photographer’s Note
Photo here was taken while driving back from town to get batteries since our power was out and we figured it would be out for quite sometime. Winter finally came but came with a vengance with freezing rain. We got pretty much 1/2 to 3/4 inch of it covering everything. Couldn't help but photograph it as even though it was very distructive the trees did look really pretty. There are alot of damaged trees and many powerlines down. Thankfully our power did come back on this afternoon, not sure everyone around here was so lucky though.
thanks for visiting my gallery and your comments on my photos.

Donna,
This photo has a very calm and quiet look to it. The ice is beautiful on the trees. You have good lighting and sharpness here. I like your composition looking down the roadway. While you were having ice, it was 80 degrees in North Florida, not much winter for us.

I'm a sucker for wintery scenes...must come from being deprived of them in my current locale!
Nicely taken shot with the view down the middle of the road. Giood symmetry but still the odd little detail to add interest to the scene. nice one.

This one is beautiful Donna, its stark and shorn of colours yet the colours which are there have been effectively used to paint the image. The lights are wintery. Overall good composition with nice pov and dof.

Hi Donna,
So you drive around as well, I thought you were always sailing around:) Jokes apart, this is an excellent picture of winter, one can almost feel the chill in the air. The snowlined trees present a wonderful perspective.

Wow, freezing cold. Not for me, thanks!!! Everything below 15ºC starts being cold for me!!!
I like your picture, in spite of all that ice! The colours are beautiful and show well the weather. The POV is good as it is also the sharpness. Well done.

Hi Donna,
wonderful ice on trees .. well captured .. I might have been kind of naughty and desaturated some of the cars and mail box colors to take as much emphasis as possible away from those cluttering objects .. You have captured the trees and the road in a wonderful thoughtful way ..
My parents area of South Dakota was out of power for weeks last year after one of these ice storms sheared a vast number of power poles and such things in their county.
hope things stay together for you.
take care,
John

Hello Donna,
This is an amazing scenery, for several reasons!
The weather phenomenon you mention is well documented, I don't know how often that happens in your place but it is very rare over here...
The road gives a pleasant feeling of depth, and the frozen trees truely have a wintery feeling!

Hi Donna,
Your good POV gives a great perspective to this street, where the trees and the frozen soil us transmit perfectly the sensation of cold that you have caught in the photo.
The winter has come to Canada and the U.S., with great force and with serious consequences, I have seen it in TV, hope that everything is under control and the normality recovers as soon as possible.
Here in Spain we continue in an autumn environment, the cold has not come yet.
Good work.
Regards,
Josep

Hi Donna
Having lived without electricity for one week after the ice storm of 1990,I know what you felt at this moment. On the other side, like you,I was mesmeriaed for 5 days, and 3 icestorms,by the beauty all around me.Too bad I was not addicted to photography at the time.
Your photo is a good ilustration of the scenery that comes from such a storm.Too bad that they are also accompanied by a cloudy sky.I think that putting a positive correction to the exposure will have helped recording more light.
As you must know by now, when the sensor records a very bright scene,it has a tendency to close, which gives darker pictures.
Hope this help
Have a good day

Donna
This has been a terrible storm for everyone in East and Midwest. On the other hand an ice torm can be a beautiful act of nature for the photographer. You captured the mood of the day and all that good technical stuff like DOF and sharpness. Thanks for sharing and I'm glad I didn't have to deal with it.
