Photographer’s Note

An early morning sunrise in Thunderbay Ontario. I took the photo while onboard my husbands ship while the ship was unloading a cargo of coal there. I was facing East towards the island they call "the sleeping giant" The mountain formatations are so very pretty here they all have a different shape that I am used to which make them look almost prehistoric or something. This sunrise changed by the minute and I took so many photos. I hope you enjoy this one.

Hello, Donna--i don't know if you had a tripod or not, or if the ship was stable enough to accomodate a longer exposure time, but this seems maybe just a tad underexposed, and maybe a slightly longer shutter speek would have helped. Taking it from a ship adds a new dimension to the shot: frequently pictures taken at this time of day are composed with strong foregrounds before graduated neutral density filters are used that allow the foreground to expose properly without blowing out the sky... but i'm not sure if there is enough interest in the foreground for a grad to be very effective. Overall, though, you managed to capture a nice mood here.

Been away from the computer since the week between the holiday - now I'm catching up. Looks like you got some great pictures while on you holiday. Great sky - the colors set the mood . Thanks for the comment on my SF sunflowers.

I like the strong colour behind the mountains just before the sun made its appearance. The catch of light reflected on the water creates a peaceful and romantic mood.

Donna,

dark moody sunrise .. I think a pseudo panoramic crop might be the best thing for this image ... to focus more of our attention on that dawn rising over the head of land ... tried it in a workshop .. photography from a ship must be a challenge .. darkly pretty image.

This dawn, his impressive light and his colors with tones orange form a splendid composition, with a very soft lighting and a few very beautiful silhouettes.

Una imagen sencilla pero muy llamativa, principalmente por la intensidad de los colores y la luz tan tenue que posee, parece una pintura lista para enmarcar, disfrutar de un momento así tiene que ser inolvidable, buen trabajo y gracias por compartir.
