Photographer’s Note
My New Years resolution is to carry my camera around more. I'm always finding excuses to not bring it places. Today, despite it being a relatively cloudy and miserable day in Vancouver, was a good day to actually have my camera with me. We were driving home when the light began to peak underneath the clouds just prior to sunset. We pulled over and managed to get the sunset just before it was lost.
I removed a couple of power lines crossing the frame using PS. I also applied a frame.

Hello Donald,
Fantastic shot with excellent lighting. I also like it how we are able to see parts of the mountains in the background. Great composition with beautiful colours and great details! Well done, Donald!

Hello Donald,
This is absolutely a very difficult pict-ure for taking, with the imminent sky, but the light and composition are very well. I've a question Donald I see you work with a 24-105 f4 l IS USM lens, is this a good lens, maybe I should purchase this lens?
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice week,
John.

This is a very nice shot Don! I like the reflections off the buildings, which gives you a view looking both ways - away from the light and toward the light, at the same time. The result is a pretty dramatic cityscape. Well done!

Hi Donald, very nicely controlled use of the reflective light - most times I would expect it to be overblown coming at such a straight angle like that back into your lens. I noticed that extreme brightness (or maybe it was due to being under overcast skies too long in Van.) that I too noticed it quite readily whenever the sun shone through - it was almost too bright. You seemed to be in the perfect place for it this time.
P.S. Nice New Years resolution, hope you keep it up and spot gems like this to shoot!

Donald excellent highlights here. I love it when the sun comes out to play for a while with real dark storm clouds in the background. Excellent shot.. I like it..

Don,
Very dramatic! It is like the city has just sprouted triumphantly from between the misty mountains... which, in a way, it has.
Nice one.
Andrew.

Neat! Love the golden light against the dark background. The fog on the hills adds something mysterious to it:)

Hi Don;
This image is like a diamond amongst the rubble, as are the highlights amidst the gloom that can be Vancouver in the winter- haha.
The reflections are quite bright but I can imagine they had to be to be able to properly expose the shadows.
The left of the image seems to be quite sharp- however the right side of the image (I think) suffers from a 'slight' amount of motion blur... I'm guessing hand held? Hard to get it spot on when hand-holding at 1/50th.
However the composition and the fact that it's my favorite city MORE then make up for the slight blur.
All the best Don!
