Photographer’s Note

Aka "Toe to toe with a Bronze Copperhorn..." or "Radiant Ram in Radium..."

Wishing a HAPPY and fun-filled 2007 to my - old AND new - friends here on TREK_ ... May we all shoot a few!

I shot this Copperhorn outside the Kootenay National Park*, near Radium, BC. [This ram is but part of the full sculpture - Oct 2000 - by Rick Taylor. You will find it close to the junction of highways 93 ( from the Park ) along the 95 ( skirting the Park ]

The photo was shot at 10:40AM- at the end of another hike - with the sunlight on the ram's left flank...

Radium BC and the Kootenay National Park* are famous for these Rocky Mountain Sheep, aka Bighorn Sheep < Ovis Canadensis Canadensis >; I tried to capture the BC aspect in this shot as well.

In late April , early May 2006, the Rocky Mountain Sheep ( Bighorn ) herds were still on the grassy benches of the Columbia River valley. They had not yet gone up to the higher elevations for the greener pastures and to avoid the hotter weather. Rams and ewes still travelled in seperate groups.

This fella wasn't interested in making a move on me.
The feeling was reciprocal...
I was very glad he was cast in bronze!

Photo was cropped to fit the 800 pixel limit.

PS
Another look is at TE.
A live specimen is here at TN .
Here is an "official" shot of a small group in the rough.

And more for those with an artistic bend more metallic ART.
