Photographer’s Note

“The old gun” is the name of this photograph. This photograph was taken at Cape Spear last fall. I’ve posted a different view of this gun on T. E. a few months ago. These guns protected our coast during World War Two when enemy ships and submarines frequented our waters. I am not sure how much action they saw?
It would be a nice gesture for Parks Canada to rebuild a replica of this battery as it was during the war. I guess money is the main problem.
Some drama groups use this place during the summer to hold plays and it works quite well. Last year they had a play called “Shakespeare by the Sea” and it was very successful.
In the mean time, these guns are rusting away year by year. Hopefully one of these years enough finances will be available to reconstruct this site.
This photograph was level adjusted, sharpened in lab color U. S. M. 90,2,3, and saved for the web .
