Photographer’s Note

''The White House...''

''Historical Monument'' since 2002. '' the White House'' also called ''the Prévost' House'', has new owners. Centenial house located at the heart of St-Jérome, more precisely at 349 Labelle street. Become property of the city for a third time in 2002. having acquired it from la Caisse Populaire which did not wish to carry out important necessary restorations. It was sold to private owners in love with the patrimonial buildings, which will live it. It was completely renovated during the last year and as you can see, it went from white the yellow, which I believe give it a very beautiful look with its white woodworks. On the first floor professionals will be offering their services.

It was built in 1891 by honourable Me Wilfrid Prévost (lawyer) which lived there with his family until his death in 1897. It was bequeathed by will to his youngest son Jean which was Libéral deputy of the Terbonne county from 1900 until its death in 1915. He was 45 years old.

The City became owner for the first time in 1922. Two years later it passed to the hands of the Knights of Colomb. It served of old people's home for St-Jérome from 1932 to 1935 which for lack of place a new one was builded which became CHSLD of Youville today.

It was then bought by the government of Quebec to give health care to the population. In 1978 become again property of the city for second time which has it coverted in arts centre until it was sold to la Caisse Populaire in 1988, which placed it at the disposal of the Community organizations such as Le Coffret.
