This young boy, unaware of my presence among the rays of mist issuing from the metal tubes one scorching afternoon, was clearly enjoying the refreshing cold water while I, standing against the still formidably hot sun after a day's work, was even happier to have chanced upon such a sight: his hands and what looked like a bowing to the elements seemed archaic in what recalled ancient Egyptian depictions of worshippers of Ra, the Sun God.

Dramatic shot! The outline of the boy against the bright background/foreground works very well. I like how the shadows are cast in the raindrops. Sepia tone is suitable since the image was probably close to monochrome.

Artistic work with great mood created.
Since he was unaware of your presence, all the moments are so natural so sweet.

Very nicely done B&W piece. It might look cool with the arch cropped out. It's very nice this way too.
AnimeshRay (9083) 2006-08-08 20:28
Very beautiful image...almost iconic in its simplicity. Interesting how the perspective looks flat.
BAKO (1689) 2006-08-08 20:29
Great graphic shot SaSa,
the light and also compo with sepia tones quite superb
vapours (8264) 2006-08-08 21:01
Nice work Sarolta, theres a hint of eerieness and mystery with the way the head is down and the colour work you have done. Love the effect of the sun on the mist.

Hi there Sarolta,
My simple words are WOW! BEAUTIFUL! If I could give more than 2 points, I certainly would.
bigric (2873) 2006-08-08 21:04
I like the way you have captured a shot that does not seem real and more like science fiction. tfs richard.
Furachan (0) 2006-08-08 21:23
ANother pbrilliant "cooling off" picture. One marvels at your ability to start off with an everyday scene, a kid splashing in water and go into a profoundly artistic zone that leaves many of us with our mouths gaping. of course now we know it can be done, right?
Striling work yet again.
ndb1958 (9289) 2006-08-09 0:13
is he able to fly?
The water looks quite like snow, a great effect. I'm impressed by his shadows.
Wonderful composition. Nice work.
Rusty (208) 2006-08-09 2:07
Extremely powerful image, I like the effect of the shadows & lights from his arm. The pose is perfect!
Propofol (1790) 2006-08-09 2:13
Great shot. You must have used a blazingly-fast shutter speed to freeze the water like this. Very well done indeed - TFS

a great image again. I really like the pose of this boy, and you choose the right title to fit with it.
As always, superb sepia tones, that share well the feeling of the heat IMO.
Just another thing... the light and shadow are beautiful too.
jeffao (504) 2006-08-09 3:31
thanks for this artistic picture! great shot, good choice of monocromatism, impressive effect of the water and of the game between light and shadow...
Perfect the title as well!
dolin (15647) 2006-08-09 4:02
Impressive shot !
Ce moment que t'as figé est magique et magnifique.
J'adore ce jeu d'ombres, tout simplement splendide.
La position, l'effet, la lumière....pffffffffffffff c'est géant !
Sacrément bon !
luisafonso (862) 2006-08-09 4:10
My God, this is amazing... Remember those times when the power of the picture surpasses all technical words we could write about it; when the sensibility is so strong that every word we write seems nonsense in front of this glimpse of reality? Well, this is just one of these cases...
tcht (7565) 2006-08-09 4:25
This pic has the most 'artificial' noise ever! Love it! For a start, the inclusion of the arch above is great. And those shadows and silhouette shapes are really powerful. What I like the most is that one can interpret this image in many different ways:
Positively: Religious figure ie Jesus giving a blessing
Negatively: Hostage being pointed by a gun
Politically: He represents Lebanon...
Well...just my thoughts!
veronika (6052) 2006-08-09 4:33
waou what a magic picture, really almost archaic one, i love the play of light and shadows and the sepia tone as well, very strange atmosphere.. I like :)

Now, what to add to critique after you've summarized it all in your note?
An excellent play of light and beautifully pulled out in PP-ing!
Congratulation, Sasa! A really good work!
Mistral (15402) 2006-08-10 17:45
Excellent fantashot, dear Sasa
The pose of his hands and his walking foot are amazing and the general mood that transmit is like something of alien or yes, of archaic.
lewiz (1297) 2006-08-10 18:24
This has got to be an instant favourite for everyone! I've not seen light and water look as beautiful as this in years!
Thanks for this one :)
cbrman (21645) 2006-08-11 1:45
Ta prise de vue est bien réalisée. Les gouttes d'eau figées sont parfaites et les couleurs bien choisies.
Excellent jeu d'ombres.
jinju (14265) 2006-08-14 10:13
wow, very striking work! The play on shadows and light is so good. This one is a great follow up to a similar photo you uploaded here before, the drops again caught sharply thanks to the fast shutter. Infact the drops look like beautiful grain that really carries the light and shadows well.
greg (2835) 2006-08-15 14:04
Astonishing - really beautiful.
MayaG (2413) 2006-08-16 6:20

Great moment and composition.
All the best.
russte (0) 2006-09-03 11:20
Hi Sarolta, this is a graphical image of some excellence. Your professional training shines through. Beautiful use of the different tonal shades to achieve both a remarkable image of the young man and to make the sensation of the water almost tangible. The slight toning works very well and I wish some of our members would follow your lead that less is often more. . . Superb. Stephen
eleparc (24063) 2006-09-04 10:09
I had missed that one;-( i love the deistic touch of this shot, as you mentionned, and the fact that his head seems already gone through the water...it gives it a darker tone... I bet you regretted not having your swimming gear;-)
15°C now you said? humm;-(
picardo (2459) 2006-09-15 14:25
I think this picture have enough good critiques and points ;)... but a can't help writting you one more critique: Simply perfect!. I love it!

lucinka (9976) 2006-09-24 16:35
Sarolta, I somehow must have missed this great shot. This is what I call to be at the right place at the right moment. Great use of white and B&W treat brings even more mysterious atmosphere to it. Well done. Lucie
Haymotion (2629) 2006-10-17 5:46
Gestion de la luminosité et des contraste parfaite..
Effet de l'eau gelé tout a fait surprenante et teinte de ta photo très réussi
PJE (20758) 2006-11-13 0:10
Well I do like this one better than the other Sarolta because of its simplicity anad strong posture of this lad. Perhaps he is praying by saying thank you God for stopping the rain..and now please turn of this water before I drown..
Kristo (543) 2007-03-14 13:48
Great Artistic work...
