"Summertime and the livin’ is easy"
I happened to be watching (and listening to) this fellow play in a bar in Toronto. The composition suggested itself.
The music was Dixieland Jazz, that type of improvisation which we today associate with bands originally playing in America's 'Southland'.
The music is an up-beat cheerful fusion of many cultural styles.

An alternate, showing the sax in focus and the beer out of focus in the workshop. Funny how now the beer glass becomes an irritation :)

Hi Silke,
I'm not quite sure what to read into this... You focus the beer not the music..? Hehehehe, kidding!
I like this capture, very summery... and dixieland is a very happy kind of music...
Well framed, interesting shapes!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Bonsoir Silke,
J'aime moins ce genre de photo, mais considère ma visite comme une courtoisie.Je trouve bizarre ce premier plan net sur le verre et le reste flou.Est-ce voulu de ta part?
A bientôt sur TE

Christian

"The composition suggested itself"? I guess that's what creativity is all about! Very well done--it's nice that you were able to get a POV where the beer and the sax player together fill the frame. Nice rich colors, a very evocative shot! I do wish the sax weren't cut off on the right side, but the shot works anyway. Regards, Ken.

Hi Silke,
FOr me it works better with the foreground beer and the musician in the bokeh, there's an appealing feel of summer night heat here for which the beer offers pleasant balance. I like the color touch of the Bud sign too, the curvy shape of this neon lighting seems to take me back to the 50's (it's an image of course, since I'm actually younger than that, I mean from what I have seen in the movies...)
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hola Silke,

Interesante imagen, me gusta la copa en primer plano y el fondo ligeramente borroso, la composición es creativa e ingeniosa, buen contraste de colores, felicidades.

Saludos, José

Nicely done!
You make me thirstly!

Bernard

Hi Silke,

A good POV of this glass of beer and of the musician playing jazz, there is a Jazz fesrival every summer in Montreal. The photo has a good composition and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Pierre

I thought this was some drunk guy sitting at the bar drinking beer from the tap when I first looked at this; that would have been funny.
I think this is a great shot Silke. I like the use of differential focus, and considering how close you must have been to the beer glass, you did well not to overpower it with the flash. There's a good level of detail in the background too, again not so easy with flash in a dark room.
Good work.
Ben

Hi Silke,
I love beer, and good music also !!!
So for me it is a perfect shot ! Let's put it into my favorite one :)

Hi Silke. Cold beer and hot jazz is a good connection. This applies also to the colors and reflections in the picture. Perhaps the glass could have more right stood somewhat:) An interesting study of the night life with its special Atmoshaere. Many greetings, Wolfgang.

Hi Silke,

So you like Gershwin too?

I like very much the use of DOF and light to capture the mood of the place. Colors are great too!

Well done my friend!

Kind regards,
Carlos

Hi Silke,
What a wonderfully unique photo we have here with the rich colored beverage and the muted musician happily grooving to the southern beat.
Regards, Tom
