Kalamalka Lake, BC
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a shot of Kalamalka Lake, British Columbia. For those of you who are somewhat familiar with the area, it's between Kelowna and Vernon.
Kalamalka Lake (Lake of a Thousand Colors) is known as a 'marl' lake. When the lake warms in the summer, dissolved limestone crystallizes giving the lake a distinctive blue and green hue. When the lake cools, the limestone crystals disappear. More here.
The Okanagan Valley is one of the warmest regions in all of Canada. For those of you who think that Canada is all about snow and igloos, think again. There are literally hundreds of wineries in this area. "Outside the Lower Fraser Valley, the Okanagan is one of British Columbia's most important agricultural areas, and provides the country with one-third of its commercial apples. Apricots, cherries, peaches, pears, plums, prunes and grapes also line the valley floor, where warm temperatures and long growing seasons make for ideal conditions." More here.
I could go on forever about this place.. I'll be posting a few more, so I'll elaborate more in those..
***Post-processing: the first thing I usually do is adjust levels and curves to get a nice balanced picture. Next I adjust brightness/contrast (not always adjusting brightness but usually contrast), up the saturation a bit (+5), and sharpen. I resize, add a frame, and save it at maximum quality (12 I think) in PS, and open up the pic with NeatImage. Even if I don't remove any noise, I like using NeatImage to reduce the size of the image (kb wise). The reason I'm going into so much detail is because it might be helpful to new members..
Thanks for stopping by.
