This is the frozen St. Lawrence river in the winter of 1986, the city of Montreal in the background. I took my gloves off for the shot and I could hardly take the shot, as the temperature was extremely cold and without the city back there I would have felt like in the North Pole.
The current condition of the 20-year old print is really horrible, I can't blame the scanner. But after conversion to B&W and playing a little bit with some of the parameters - it has somehow the flavor of the original composition; I hope that the result is decent, at least for those that like this kind of pictures.
The blur and the vague contrast are hopefully appropriate for a "memory" shot, and also they may somehow make the city to look like a distant mirage.

I think we are both digging in old memories sometimes. The baxckground is the best part in my mind, that foggy line of buildings and skyscrapers on the horizon. A bit as if you were just arriving from the frozen wastelands and were discovering the city you were travelling to and now it is upon reach, at last...
Besides that : yes, the picture shows its age.
All the best,

Usually, the month of February is the coldest of the year. A good capture of the frozen St-Lawrence river and the city in the background, the blur is giving a special effect to the photo.

very nice image, especially for the composition, with great space for nature and the upper part of the shot dedicated to the city, which seems to be hidden behind a light fog.

Hi My friend Daniel,
I see that you are bringing out old memories.
What I like most here is the skyscrapers on the horizon line and the fact that you put them in the uper part of the composition.

I like the idea, it is something different and I think quite special. You have managed to give it the emotion you seeked and it seems that it was chosen by you for a reason...a pleasant memory I hope.TFS.

A verry diferent shot in your gallery.
Nice b&w composition.I like how the natural foreground is dominating the urban landscape at the horizon.
Thanks and regards,

Quite a bleak landscape here Daniel...I seem to like the grains here..the choice of B&W is good considering the lack of colours anyway...Well done friend!

for a 20 year old print you have recovered quite a bit of detail and depth here. this particular texture does give out a sense of time which passed by us.

Good choice of title as the building do appear as if a mirage across the desolate foreground. You seem to be enjoying a trip of nostalgia at the moment.

This kind of not perfect pictures often give a much better idea and representation of these extreme circumstances and special atmosphere.

Is not so bad the pic´s condition.
For me is an excelent posting, show the severity of cold in this latitudes, and gives lonely sensation.
