Photographer’s Note
While in Vancouver on the Burrard Bridge I took a number of photos to record some details of historic architecture on this bridge. This photo was actually a vertical that I cropped to bring this focal point of view. The pastel colors on this old bridge reminded me of many buildings I have seen in the Caribbean. The clear blue sky made the perfect backdrop to this photo.
The Burrard Street Bridge is an art deco, six lane bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia that spans False Creek connecting downtown to Kitsilano. The bridge is embellished with imposing concrete towers, torch-like entrance-pylons, and sculptural details. Unifying the parts are heavy concrete railings, originally topped by decorative street lamps. Busts of Captain George Vancouver and Harry Burrard jut out from the bridge’s superstructure. Enjoy the scene.
Another photo taken from inside the bridge can be seen here.

Hi Paul. You know I think I took a picture of that bridge from afar and had no idea it had this sort of detail. The DOF is perfect for keeping all of the essential parts in focus. The way you composed this is very effective. Excellent shot Paul.

Hi Paul, A nice and sharp image with great details. Good contrast against the blue sky. The shades have well outline the 3-D of the decorations on the building. A well taken picture.

Nice detail of this bridge. I've often looked at this, thinking it would make a good shot, but I never got around to it. I like the clarity in this shot, showing all of the details, with great colour too. Well done!

Hi Paul
This is a very clean and colourful shot. Great shadows and a nice, almost abstract nature to the shot. I love the blue sky; this gives dramatic impact. Well done.

Tis is a good study with a simple and geometrical result for what is not especialy modern architecture looking like...
I like the composition like you have done it and i would suggest for this subject a very personnal POV wich is to build from the out-going boat without the shadow and the down arch (of course for the shadow the sun will never be as we want :-))...
In complement of the quality here there is an excellent light detailing the windows.
Well done

Hi Paul,
Now that's an interesting and different photo. I never paid much attention to the details of this bridge. It's quite amazing. I love how you took this photo and the angle of it. Great contrast with the blue sky and beautiful details! A well composed photo that was very well captured. Nice work, Paul!
Greetings,
Ann

Hi Paul,
It is amazing, but all the times I crossed this bridge in my youth I never realized there was such stunning architecture and that, as your note says, it is an art deco bridge. The clarity here is superb, and the contrast of colours with the blue sky enhances. I also like your POV. I am sure very few Vancouverites are aware of this wonderful architecture, unless they are cyclists or pedestrians crossing over. Very fine work, Paul, and a great contribution to knowledge of Vancouver architecture.

Hi Paul
A bridge?your cropping creates something like houses in a row.
The technic is fine and the subject very interresting, the contrast with the blue sky,as you suggest, creates a mediterranean scenery.
Very good work

Hi Paul. An eye catching image with good contrast against this lovely blue sky, and excellent framing and sharpness. I was trying to puzzle out what architecural 'style' this was - and then read your note. Of course - art deco! Cheers . . . David

Hi Paul - indeed this looks more like Miami or Napier(NZ) than somewhere in Canada, excellent lighrt and detail.

lovely shot Paul - the sky is the pertfect foil for your concentration on architectural detail - the shadows provide excellent modelling for showing of the structure - a really interesting and supportive note too.
best wishes Kev
