Photographer’s Note
Vancouver's Coal Harbour, as seen from Stanley Park. The pre-dawn mist gives this a different look as the downtown office towers are somewhat obscured. This corner of Vancouver's harbour is the home to a large fleet of yachts and other pleasure craft. The commercial port is out of sight in the distance - I'd like to take photos of that as well, but unfortunately it is off limits because of security concerns (that is, off limits to everyone, not just me, in case you are wondering!).
This was taken at exactly the same time and place as my previous post, except that this is the wide view and the other shot was zoomed in to show the detail in the boats. I couldn't decide which version I liked better, so I posted both. I should have used a tripod, but didn't have it with me, so I increased the ISO a bit and shot wide open at f2.8.

Again a fine rendition of the winter morning atmosphere, Alvin. Good structuring of the frame with the 2:1 vertical division, and fine effect of the blueish urban details fading into the red morning sky. Again the reflections are included at the best to amplify the mood.

Witaj Alvin!
Interesting composition and colours. It pleases me fog and reflection in water. Very impressive picture!

with that lens and the overall misty impression it seems sharp enough...
its a wonderful and professional use of the ultra wide in the portrait format
the colours remind me of the dawns i used to take...its more pastel and varied than a sunset with all the heat and dust occluding the tonality...perfect mood shot and well taken
thanks

Hello Alvin,
Wow, this is also a stunning shot. I love this one as there is a little more to see in this photo. I like how you have included some rocks and beach in the foreground. This leads the eye of the viewer right into the beautiful display of colors. The colors are stunning and the mist only adds to this photo! Great composition. Great job, Alvin!

Great shot, you composed the yachts well against the buildings, not converging perfectly so as to stop the movement of the picture, but with some subtly repetition for harmony's sake. Maybe it would have been nice to have taken it slightly farther toward the right so as to get the small spot of coastline out on the left, or farther left to make it a little bit more of an actual compositional element--currently it seems a bit distracting. Even cropping it would help, I think.
But that's just getting picky on a very nice shot.

Hi Alvin. A good follow-up to the previous post. I think I might prefer the first one more actually just because the details are better. Your DOF didn't seem to suffer from being at only f/2.8. Beautiful shot Alvin.

Hey Alvin;
Amazing colors in this "Dawn/ Early Morning" shot (I'm adding it to my theme), especially the addition of the fog. Although I think a landscape vs portrait cropping would have been a bit more complimenting.
Heading out without a tripod? Isn't that a crime of sorts? hahaha...
I would have thought you'd bring the tripod to fend off any hoodlums around Stanley Park that time of day...
Cheers Alvin!

Hi Alvin
Marvellous color & reflections, in this superb sunset. I like the repetition of the yachts. Good work!

Hi Alvin,
Another nice view from this photo session, different from the previous as the eye catcher here is the misty pinky skyline on the left, nice as well to see how the < shaped boat silhouettes build a lead to it.
So we had the close view, the portrait shot, tomorrow the panorama ???
;-))
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Although this image is a fine shot, all the elements are well put together, colours are great etc. I feel that the original post beats it, I cannot say why exactly, it may be the POV, hard to say...

Hi Alvin - I do prefer the previous one, but this one also has that Blade Runner atmosphere, and the gradual shift from warm to cool colours is better seen here, honestly lack of tripod has done nothing to harm the image.

Hi Alvin,
Both shots are beautiful, but I think I prefer this one fo several reasons: the boats on the other shot are closer and make a large dark area in the composition; I particularly like the stones in the foreground here and also the silhouetted trees on the left. I wish a nice month of February... see you on TE when I get back!

Hi Alvin,
On balance, I like your previous one better - its a blockbuster. This shot however can certainly stand on its own and gives the broader view and particularly the enhancing feature of a corner of the park. I might have cropped the foreground however and sized this the same as the other one, but still retained some of the silhouetted rocks in the water. But the ambience, lighting, and misty morning ambience all come together to make this shot another winner. Well captured.

Well Alvin I missed this one of the pair that you posted. I have to say congrats to you on this because you have the advantage of living in Vancouver to be able to capture this wonderful scene. An excellent photo indeed. Thanks for the inspiration Alvin. As per my latest posting I was in your neighbourhood today!

Hi, Alvin! This is one of the most beautiful pics I've seen here: colours, reflections, sharpness, perspective and subject. Thanks for sharing, giving us a chance to "visit' your wonderful city. Best regards, Miguel.
