Last week we had a bit of sun. The icicles started to melt, drop by drop. Then freezing rain came again. This winter has been a very unusual one here in Canada: unpredictable and moody, with far less sunshine. This was a day that offered pure pleasure, a reminder that the sun did exist.

Beautiful graphism, gorgeous colours..
Love your tilt here too Sarolta..
Very creative as usual..
alekpet (4663) 2006-01-31 11:07
Extreme closeup that not only offers startling sharpness, but also the great combination of colours. Dot the I ( and it looks like the letter i )is the two droplets. And a choice to put all this in a diagonal.... I am sure that this is a TrekLens shot, but nevertheless, I am so glad it is here on TE.
take care, Aleks
zoopkid (10) 2006-01-31 12:36

don_narayan (2014) 2006-01-31 12:52
ahhh.... wow... I mean, what is there really to say about this? You did this with the 18-70mm? I can't get such good macro with that lens! I am just jealous... green with envy. You and nature collaborated on a beautiful piece of art.
poulinp (4530) 2006-01-31 13:05
Very interesting composition. I like the way the picture is tilted to get some nice diagonals. Beautiful background color, excellent DOF. A great photograph!
dsolarov (422) 2006-01-31 13:16
Fantastic shot!!! Beautiful composition and colours. And the reflection in the bigger drop is a special treat.
chicken (1557) 2006-01-31 13:22
Wonderful close-up and amazing how the world is contained within the drops. Nothing to nit-pick, this one is IMO just perfect.
olopez (4959) 2006-01-31 13:23

Fantastic pic! Extreme micro-detail... You've a very good eye & mind to spot these minute detail and the result is brilliant. Very nice choice of tilt and background colour works very well. Trully enjoyable & pleasant pic.
dolin (15703) 2006-01-31 15:03
Olala quel timing.
cherryripe (21033) 2006-01-31 15:09
I really love these icicles. The textures and colours are amazing. Really look like glass. You have captured a great moment witht eh 2 little droplets. Well framed.
AmiBe (6042) 2006-01-31 15:19
Wow, fantastic picture Sasa !
Superb blue tones and the drop is "the cherry on the cake".
Pure graphical shot, I like so much.
Very well done

KevRyan (22956) 2006-01-31 16:38
A sharp pro image Sasa but in your hands a real delight that stands above a simple quest for technical perfection - this is an encounter - an affair of the heart as well as the eye - I can feel your spirit and soul through the image and in that moment there was only that moment - even down to the minutest after-drop! Jerzy's awestruck silence is the greatest compliment.
best wishes Kev
peter1892 (1681) 2006-01-31 17:06
That's incredible! The focus & DOF used is absolutely perfect, I really like the bokeh effect that you've got on the background icicles. It's such a clear image, perfectly sharp where it should be. Great work!!
misterB (2250) 2006-01-31 17:15
To capture one droplet is an amazing piece of photographic excellence, but to capture mother and baby in the same, incredibly small slice of time, is just wow, Wow, WOW. I just wish I had the ability to see what could be revealed by the reflections held within those droplets, to see what is going on around you as it plummets towards the ground.
Or, would the drops freeze again on their journey downwards, and lock that slice of time inside of them for a short while longer?
A truly inspirational piece of work.
mareseye (1209) 2006-01-31 17:29
Few words, so much feelings.
Thanks for sharing,
michel_r (1118) 2006-01-31 17:47
beautiful again. this blue is simply gorgeous together with the brown, not to mention the reflection in the drops. You did again Sasa...
eleparc (24063) 2006-01-31 17:56
one of your winter shots;-) I am still under the sasa charm;-) what kind of filter do you use to put us all under this charm?
johnnymag (490) 2006-01-31 18:50
Words also fail me.....I wish I could see life through your eyes, you are a star! Magnificent,
I'm in awe. What was that quotation on the bench, 'imagination is more important than knowledge' how very true. Well done, and thanks for showing us the way. Regards, John.
Wahclellaspirit (3963) 2006-02-01 0:32
Brilliant image... Colors and action are fantastic. Clarity is a must in this type of image, almost appears to be a studio shot of "Small Product Photography" with lighting.
On my favorites list...
oochappan (16582) 2006-02-01 1:07
That's indeed a beauty, raisersharp with even reflections in the waterdrop, the DOF spotting this so well out and having a great blue background contrasting the fine sparkeling textures.
A real treat for the eye.
everlasting (14698) 2006-02-01 1:55
Seeing captures like this i cannot wait to arrive in ottawa:)
Such timing and such radiant colours, not to mention the sharpness. I have had no luck whatsoever capturing winter bokeh here so ...please dont melt just yet.
Furachan (0) 2006-02-01 1:56
What can one say about such beauty? The deep azure blue of the background, the precision of your focus on falling drops, the perfectly aesthetic tilt employed here. This is simply wonderful and top notch work, a delight for your many fans..:o)
From one of them,
cirospat (530) 2006-02-01 3:07
it seems to be in a different planet
jinju (14265) 2006-02-01 3:35
from your abstracts of winter this one beats them all. The clarity of the ice and the immaculate sharpnss is one reason but the clincher is the falling drop of water. Superb!
bantonbuju (51787) 2006-02-01 6:00
i'm speachless, let me stay so until tomorrow, when i think up something that i'll write and which won't offend you and this work;
i'm still speachless but i can say now only that the thing that i love most is the main motif capured here:
you cptured a time, a moment, a fraction of the second passing by, a rare skill, presented in such a beautiful way;
so you are a moment-catcher-master;
ps, if i think up something else i'll report it :-)
Bien (4745) 2006-02-01 9:48
Hi Sarolta, I must say that Jerzy is not alone with his feelings. This shot totally startled me yesterday and left me speechless indeed. I thought I'll return today - however none of my words would still be worthy your masterly shot.
The fragility of this moment in time is breathtaking. The passing of time, drop by drop, until all is used up... Some moments are more special than others, frozen in our memory as you froze this ice drop in time. What can I say? This image is not only tremendously appreciated by my eyes, it just goes straight to my soul and I'm pretty certain it will stay there, frozen forever as well. Thank you, Sabine
Paolo (41222) 2006-02-01 9:53
Hi Sasa, fantastic shot!
i took many similar ones last Xmas vacation, but are all terrifiant!
this one is really perfect!
the deep blue background is amazing as the good tilted composition, the perfect focus on the drop and the light.
excellent, excellent, excellent!
saguzar (862) 2006-02-01 10:13
Perfect image, I love its colours, very fine details and specially drplets fall.
A little abstract and beautiful.
bullabulla (3488) 2006-02-01 15:19
it is amazing there must have a lot of post traitment in this kind of picture or is it natural??
You are a magicien to be able to create art with nothing
Rossignol (2289) 2006-02-01 15:27
Your flair for design is obvious from the composition of this shot. I like the way you have captured the icicles on the diagonal. The fuzzy but bright blue background is an excellent foil for the sharp and sparkling ice and the drops melting off the icicle, and defying gravity due to the diagonal composition, are captured perfectly.
tjanze (5674) 2006-02-02 12:02
Woow! How simple and how beautiful.I like the angle of view.I think this diagonal is in last time your registered trademark.Water drop in the air, with reflection inside is number one.Bravo!
hamster (104) 2006-02-02 18:16
Another amazing macro from you. The sharpness and colors are simply outstanding. And these two drops! Very unique one.

Luan (12971) 2006-02-03 18:32
Absolutely stunning shot, you waited for the water drops by...wow
What more to say about this compo...a pure masterpiece !
Well done Sasa
changlaifu (93) 2006-02-05 10:13
for me, the strength of this image lies in its detail. it is a beautifully rendered view of something most people don't take a lot of time to examine.
the colors are perfect. blue for cold and ice and the warm deep red slowly melting the ice. perfect.
the angle is also compelling because the water drop is not falling the way it ought to. rather, it is falling at an angle. is that good or bad? i'm not sure, but it is an effect that causes the viewer to stop and take notice of it. my first inclination is to tilt my head.
this is an excellent photograph, and that is why it is in my favorites. :)
ALSOM (6616) 2006-02-06 4:04
Fantastic composition and timing.
Super light capture and great bokeh. ! Noting else to say :o)
starbug (6924) 2006-02-06 5:34
hi Sasa, I was absent for a few days and a few wonderful shots from you that I missed.I tried doing exactly the same as you did here- catching a drop falling from the icicles, never suceeded in creating even half of what you've managed to create, it's a superb composition and tilt, superb colour and depth of view. I can see i'm not the first one to mark it as my favourite:-)
Calimero76 (10957) 2006-02-06 17:28
Juste te dire Sasa que cette image est magnifique et que tu as su saisir l'Instant

droplets are marvelous capture. Beautiful one Sarolta. Your picture proves that having a good camera doesnot give good pictures. it is the photographer who does the magic.

Beautiful colors, composition, depth of field, etc. I could go on and on. I love the drops falling down to earth. The clarity of both is inspiring. Thank you for sharing and a new favorite for me.
