Photographer's Note

Defaecation, or as the Americans would spell it (if at all aware of the word) - defecation. An essential part of the rhythym of life. That what goes in has to come out, albeit transformed hopefully for the good of the transformer.
But where to defaecate? This problem has challenged mankind for centuries. Of course, we, those that are lucky enough, now have flush toilets, exhaust fans and so on, to make this as hygienic an event as we think it should be. But for others, having a dedicated hole in the ground with a roof over it to keep sun &/or rain off one's defaecating self, is a total luxury.
One could make it a life's work to study these structures and indeed their names. Here's a short list of the latter: Privie, outhouse, shit-house, thunderbox (this one very Canadian I think, although I don't want to be boastful!), dunny (the Australian term of preference). I'm sure other TE-ers can provide other names and indeed other examples of the architecture of this essential structure that has moved forward the civilization of the world.
And this one? On a lonely island in the middle of Howe Sound, not far from Vancouver, the author sat and did his business all the while contemplating an exquisite view and swatting mosquitoes. Then, looking backwards, apreciated the innovative architecture.....
Looking forward to an explosion of other contributions.
John
