This is a view of Vancouver's False Creek. As I've mentioned in earlier postings, this body of water used to be used for industry in quite recently. Now the land around False Creek has been converted to expensive apartments, but there are still some traces of the older, grittier False Creek. One is the boat dock, where you can still see a lot of fishing boats. There are also a lot of yachts in the marina, but I like to see the working boats, which I think have a lot more character. In the background you can see some of the new apartment buildings. The title refers to the name of the fishing boat in the foreground (don't ask me what it means!).

Great view over False Creek with the boats on the water. I love the view of this Thetis Queen and the reflection in the water is amazing. The downtown buildings in the background add to this composition. Great framing, great composition and the use of light is fantastic.

You sir make me envious of having the opportunity of shooting scenes like this. A classic scene confirming the beauty of Vancouver Waterfront. Alvin I love the afternoon lighting on these boats and the mirror like reflection. A winning photo in every respect! Kudos to you Cormac!

I like the angle here as it focuses well on the maritime dimension a city like Vancouver has, placement of the main boat is right just on the side and the tight framing keeps well boat and reflection. About the boat name, I think Thetis is the greek name for sea, so it would be "Queen of the Sea".
Have a nice day,

Hi Alvin - beautiful light and amazing image clarity , even the smallest ripples in the water are clearly seen, another wonderful urban/maritime combo.

Hi Alvin. You know a lot of those buildings in the background look really familiar to me. Good job with the contrast and clarity. I also like the high sharpness. Nice shot!

After reading your intro I went back a little in your gallery and find that as soon as you joined TE, you showed that skill in making good composition and also at capturing beautiful lights. I really enjoyed the visit!
I chose this one because I like boats and reflections, and I like it that you can magnify urban scenes as well as wildlife. The light is gorgeous!
PS: Thetis is a name from the Greek mythology. She was a Nereide (daughter of Neree, goddess of the sea) and she is famous for being the mother of the great hero Achilles (who participated actively in the War of Troy). In order to make him invicible, she plunged him in the water of the Styx (the river of Greek Gods' Hell). However, she was holding him by the heel in the process, and that area of his body remained vulnerable. Indeed, he was killed by an arrow shot in the heel. And here is the explanation of the "Achilles heel" expression! :^)
