Photographer’s Note
On a ferry to Vancouver Island between Tsawwassen and Nanaimo. We are on Canadian waters but based on the direction of morning sun I think that background mountains are in U.S. side.
Background of this image is digitally reconstructed.
Because of the shadow, distance, haze and strong backlight there were no features visible in the mountain range background. Intead there was a lot of noise of the scan. Noise itself is not difficult to remove, when there are no features to be preserved. But JPG compression made the almost uniform background a mosaic. Finally I recreated the top part of a single colour, and added graduation between two tones near the horizon.
Please have a look at the workshop to have an idea how the area around the ship looked after scanning.

Hi Kari,
Nice shot. Great view of the distance. Nice after shot editing. Looks cool but a little blurred. The view is a little hazy. But you have done well from a nice angle. Great Work. Cheers. Hadi

Hi Kari,
After looking at the image you posted as a workshop, I see what you mean about the sky. I'm impressed with the result. Given the distance and the lack of definition, would it have been appropriate to do the same with the ship? It was just a thought..... Nicely done, all the same. By the way, I like the way you've composed this pic. It's pleasantly uncluttered.
Hugs,
Tony

I love how the light on the water brings this lovely pattern of ripples. The ship of course is also nice in this scene but lacking in the workshop. A nice evening scene typical of a view from English Bay. Please see my photo from the same area While Ships Stay Boys Play.

Good Day Kari,
Some people do not like thistype of shots. Me I do.
Interesting composition. Perhaps it may lack a bit of sharpeness but overall a nice ambiance and mood.
Cheers!
Robert
PS. Thank you for your kind comment for Sailing on a cool winter day .

Kari
This is a great shot with lots of possibilities. I prefer this shot to the workshop as it tells us more. I like the ripples on the sea and the stark high contrast light. It is a little blurred in the distance, but this seems to add some atmosphere. Good shot.
