Photographer’s Note
Kind of moody picture of a girl running on the thin Ice. This girl was brave enough to venture out on the freshly frozen Lake Acquitaine in Mississagua during the middle of December. Few meters through the lake, she felt the ice breaking up under her feet and that was the time she dashed back to the shore and I clicked her Flight to Safety.
For a broader view of this lake and also the inclusion of the moon in the photo please check Workshop.
For a close up of this girl, Please look at my post in TL.
Viewers might find it a bit weird the shopping cart on this lake. There are two possible explanations of this cart over here
1. It was put there probably by some youths who must have got a high from stealing the cart from the mall and than rolling it over the frozen lake.
2. Some people tend to to bring the carts to their homes as they do not want to carry back the groceries in their hands and than they dump the carts.
Personally I really hate this idea of stealing carts from the stores and than dumping them on the streets or parks. I tend to see abondoned carts like these especially close to the apartment buildings near the big malls. It would be interesting to get the feedback from other people all around the world to know if they experience something like this in their parts of the world too.
Have a good day/night everyone
Cheers !!
Don't forget to check the Map Link of this photo. Most of my new photos are going to have that link functional with an an error of less than 2 meters on the ground.

Hi Sarju,
Nice shot with an even nicer note. I m in Sydney and same is the problem here. Carts and trolleys 'parked' on both sides of the street and parkings. Cheers. Hadi

Hi Sarju nice details in this presentation. The body is blurred except for one foot. Very interesting movement of the body. Thanks for sharing!

"Cool" picture man...
The subject is fun and well presented. I am now in Jaco, Costa Rica, it's 21H00 and the temp is 31 degres... You would love out here. It's fun to see snow when it's so far away.
Take care Sarju - Pablo

Hi Sarju. I think we're right next to each other in the gallery. That's very creative of you to come up with this idea. You are to be congratulated on hand-holding this so still at 1/8th of second. Thanks for the map link too. Good work Sarju!

Hi Sarju,
A very lovely winter shot and a dramatic one too. It must be interesting to see the drama unfold infront of such a beautiful backdrop. I love the sight of those trees and the patches of grass and shrubs. They make the scene very delicate and appealing. I must also mention that I enjoyed the one with the moon. It really changed the mood and atmosphere. Beautifully seen and captured!! All the best.

Hi Sarju,
Your exposure time was perfectly calculated for this neat blurry effect with the girl. The red toque or scarf can really be visualized. As for the shopping cart, that is a separate story unto itself which you have well covered in your note. I like how you have taken a fairly simple scene here and made an interesting story that also teaches us about "life on the pond" this time of year. Well captured.

Hi Sarju, Nice to see your new post. I am a little confused with your "Lat Long" signature. We should give you two numbers to fulfill you all the time?
Good to use the long exposure time to show the trajectory of the skate – it is hard to tell, I have to take your words to say that’s a girl. From your camera setting, I guess that it was getting dark in your neck of wood before 5:00pm. It is interesting to show the frozen pond not far way from the residential house to be able to have fun for skating.
I like this story telling picture. It tells me a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Hola Sarju.
Beautiful winter scene with great colours and composition. In my country they don't permit you to take the shopping cart to your home, only to take it to your car parked in parking lot of the mall or market, plus here they have private guards watching your car and there carts.
Well done and TFS

Interesting photograph and note, Sarju. Almost surreal with the shopping cart sitting there on the ice. Was this handheld? (If so, you did an excellent job as the photograph is extremely sharp apart from the movement of the girl). Good choice of shutter speed to capture this movement. Cheers . . . David

Hi Sarju!
It amaze me to see people going on thin ice like that! Do they know that the water under is really cold??? I like the blurring of the girl. Almost symbolic of what could happened if the ice had broke... I like the fact that there is that still foot, quite clear. I'm a bit bother by the fact that the girl is very centered in your photo. I tried to cut the left part, but I like the tracks she made on the lake... So, I don't know. The shopping cart is a must! So funny! Not that I encourage the stealing of carts, but here it add a strange factor to the picture! And yes, sometimes we see some left out carts in the streets. :( I also like your workshop with the moon. Maybe because of the moon! ;) Well done Sarju!

You have found an elf ! A small and discret one, but you captured it.
Mysterious and inspired composition.

A great moment to catch here and a very spontaneous moment. The exposure is good, and the cold wintery feeling is well conveyed here. A good moment to catch.

We call them trollies in the UK and we used to have the same problem. Now there is a place to put a £1 coin when you collect the trolly. You can't retrieve the coin until you fix the trolly in the line with a "key" on a chain. That has solved the problem.
Love the photo. Well done with the motion blur. She was a very lucky girl after doing such a foolish thing.

Hi Sarju,
nice action shot and nice note. The moving effect is excellent. I like also the surreal presence of the shopping cart. You should have tryed to make some humorous-surreal shot with this cart in the foreground ;)

Hi Sarju, beautiful and funny image. i like the note and the image.
good esposition. i watched the TL image...in my opinion i prefere the TL one.
in this one the houses on the left side are something of "aliens" in that winter wood image.
thanks, ciao

Hi Sarju
This photo makes me laugh it's so good thanks to the movement of the girl and the shopping trolly which seems so out of place. Toni saw some teenagers roll one onto a main road the other day and they nearly caused a serious accident. Thankfully people are pretty good where we are despite living really close to 2 supermarkets. We have the same system as in England like Kath explained.

She might not be the brightest crayon in the box- you can actually see where its hardly frozen and from her tracks you can see shes run past that. aghh.
I like the blur- I'm going to be posting a bit of that myself. Ths shopping cart adds some interest as well since its so out of place on a lake. That happens where I live- some friends of mine that work in stores are always complaining about having to walk to collect the carts. I'm glad I don't have to do it.
Nice work!

Hi Sarju,
Besides the photo, there is so many interesting things to check out in here. That is a truly sharing, my friend. First of all I love the map view - I haven't realize you are so close to NY (and that is really nice...). Then, the story about the adventurous girl is interesting, with all the extra shots, the closer one on TL (how the hell do you get time for all ?!) and the Gal's post to complement.
Also the carts stealed from the stores is interesting - I have that also and a few days ago I wander about some of them in the outskirts of my place. People living in bad condition, in bad neighborhoods use to have those carts for helping them in carring all the stuff they might need. Sometimes I see them with a lock in public places, which is wierd!
The POV is nice and the blurred girl running is obviously the highlight of the shot, though I also love very much the cart. I would do a closer version focusing the girl and the cart and than would make up a story connecting them. It's not a spectacular shot, but still a very interesting one to share and to teach us something about the world. She should be really fast - nice result for a 1/8s shutter speed!
Thanks,
Cheers,
Ricardo

Hi Sarju, lucky for you to take this photo in the nick of time. Glad to hear that the little is safe too. The blurring of the girl gave a lot of "life" for the some what dull background.
