Photographer’s Note
Back to Oakville Harbour for today's post.
What you see here are some rocks being hit by a wave. These are the same rocks as shown in my previous photo. But for this photo, I was standing behind the rocks, in order to get the light house and the lake in the frame. I guess it is needless to say that I got pretty drenched split second after taking this photo, but I was also very content with the results of the shoot.
The thing that struck me the most that morning was the size of the waves pounding the harbour. Never had I seen the waves so big striking the shores of the Lake Ontario. The waves might have looked like way too petite if you compared them to the waves in the ocean, but I must remind that this is Lake Ontario.
Thin line of land mass beyond the lake is the Niagara Escarpment.
This is my first post of the year 2006, so I also wanted to wish everybody a very Happy New Year.
PS: I have started providing the Map Info with most of my photos now, but the resolution of the image available for this place is very low, so i am going to skip the Map Location for this one.

Here what happened...
Poseidon, God of the waters, was playing. For a change, He decided to try with a lake instead of the Sea. His choice was the Lake Ontario. Why? God knows! So, He did it. Suddenly, he saw Sarju Sooch, the fearless one, trying to capture His soul! "Hey you, Mortal Man, what do you thing you are doing?" The incredible Sarju defied the God. The punishment of Poseidon was hard. Splash! Yes, Sarju Sooch got drenched, but he did capture the wrath of the God after all!
Well, mortal man, you did catch that wave very well. The sky is a bit too white (or not enough?) but you made the most from a dangerous situation! Well done!

Ouch Sarju
Take better care of your camera.
Dramatic and well composed.
sadly,I find the lighthouse unsharp, probably your focus was fooled by the water.
The light is good
Happy new year

Hi Sarju, a dramatic way to begin the year, the low shutter speed didn't help here to have something on focus, I think you need to have something on focus. The sky is unfortunately a bit overexposed, though light I guess, too much concentration on the treathening waves !! Well at least, less crowded than your previous one :-)

Hi Sarju,
A great shot to start the year with. It's full of energy and action. The lighthouse has its equal share of symbolism. A great choice and I wish you success for the coming year. I must say the POV and the effort must be commended. Great shot!!! Happy New Year.

Hi Sarju,
What dynamic image! I had a good laugh imagining what happened the next second. Hope your camera survived it though! It was worth taking the risk. Your POV is good with the wave crashing on the rocks and the lighthouse in the background, though perhaps it's a bit too centered. I wish you and your family all the best for the next year!

Hi Sarju,
Spectacular cacth! I love the explosion right in front of us - and I can imagine the way you got after this. This weekend I went to the beach take some shots like this one and got the same experience - the result is my camera (ixus) having the monitor beeing fixed, because of a bigger unexpected wave explosion!
Very impressive and well composed with the lighthouse in the back. I also love the title!
Congratulations!
Thanks,
Have a good 2006,
Ricardo

Hey Sarju,
I hope you had a great holliday period. Oh what we would not do for TE.... Altough this is not a perfect technical shot, I really enjoy it. We almost get wet looking at it... Really well timed.
All the best for the new year my friend.

Hi Sarju - as long as you didn't get hypothermia or destroy your camera, it was worth it for the outstanding dynamism.

Perfectly timed shot Sarju. Being able to time this and not ruin your camera is a bonus despite getting wet yourself. I expect anyone watching would have a free laugh.

Indeed, the water movement is interesting here! and it don't hide the light house behind, so good work Sarju.

Hi Sarju,
All in the line of TE duty, my friend. When a lion has mangled your arm as you click the camera shutter, let us know - but give us the shot! LOL.. The drama and action of the waves is indeed well captured here, and I like how you caught the foreground rocks with such clarity to help frame the scene. I endorse Claire's comments below, by the way. Great shot, Sarju. Keep up the battle...

Hi Sarju. What a chaotic and fun shot. It's not that sharp but that really doesn't bother me. That is a crazy huge wave coming off a lake like that. Nice catch Sarju.

Sarju, on ne peut pas reprocher quoique ce soit à ce cliché pris dans de telles conditions. Ce ne sont pas les conditions de studio. Aussi je trouve que cette photo est très vivante et que les défauts sont ceux de la vie.

Sarju Happy New Year to you Sir! A real wet one to start 2006? Good idea. All I have had is 22 days straight of solid rain. My latest photo shows it too. Interesting work capturing this scene. I love the water action in this scene!

It's an exciting image, Sarju! I hope your camera is okay! The stability of rocks and lighthouse add to the drama of the water's movement. It's good to see your work again!

Thank you very much Sarju :) For being on the line of an incoming wave for us. I've never get this close to see an onrushing ballistic wave coming straight at me. But I also notice, you were pretty calm and collected while you were at it. Just don't try getting a bullet or anything like that ok.

I have to give you points just for risking your camera as you did Sarju! Manage to keep it dry did you?
You positioned yourself well for this one, and the shutter speed is good in capturing some motion in the exploding wave. My only suggestion would have been the use of a mono or tripod which may have given a bit sharper detial in the horizon and lighthouse.
Keep up the good work buddy!

Beautiful catch of the harsh moment. The composition good, depth of field nice, colour blenad near to true colour. A little bit blur is natural in this type of action picture. On the whole it is great.

Great effort. The breaking waves should have been taken with a shorter exposure time. I think the moving effect of the waves is a pity. Nevertheless: a great picture!
