Ferris Wheel at Ex Photo

Photographer’s Note

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed (in a good way) with the critiques on my previous post of Highway 401, so I am going to interrupt the Highway series with this long exposure shot that I took at the CNE. Thanks a lot for your overwhelming response to my photos.

I go back to to CNE 2005 for today's post. This is the third photo I am posting of the rides at the Ex.

CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) is one of the biggest events in Canada and lasts for two weeks and usually ends on the Labour day long weekend in September. One of the prime attraction of the CNE is the air show in the last weekend where one gets to see many fighting planes from the USA and many other planes performing acrobatics.

I love it. Large and bold, great colors and detail.

Hey Sarju,

Overwhelmed, but why? I think that image was well worth the attention. This is a fun shot. I did a similar shot this summer at a local event with a smaller ride. I will post the image soon. At first I was bothered by the lamp post in the image, but after taking a few moments to observe the image more, I find that it helps the composition. The exposition is well managed and the framing well done.

Excellent timing here.
The shutter speed is precise for an excellent result. The wheel is like transparent, and a lot of people can be seen blurred by their movement, giving it a real sense of a fair.

Very nice ferris wheel shot. The exposure is a bit to long for my taste (see the burned out shop on the left and the burned sign) but stil la great image.
you have a wonderful collection from the fare. looking forward to see more of it.

Beautiful result on this long exposure shot Sarju. The rotation of the wheel created a nice effect of concentric circles. A very good one.

Hi Sarju.
Your recent shots indicate you have reached a new level in your photography. Your low light and night shots in particular have both excellent exposure and other little special effects which are most enhancing, such as seen here with the ghostly people milling about and the fabulous giant wheel. The inky black sky is such a perfect counterpoint to the dynamism and colour of the CNE action. Very well done.

Amazing effect of the long exposure: the wheel looks as if it is twirling madly, when in actual fact they go quite slow. Well done

A well taken shot,it is surprising that with a long 3 seconds opening, that the people did not move that much,what did you tell them.
Les photos de nuit sont interressantes de par leur complexité,mais la récompense est grande.(night photo are interresting because of their complexity,the rewards is greater)

Hi Sarju. When seeing the ferris wheel like this, I do not feel very eager to step on it; it's like it's going to take off. Nice result though with the exposure time. Well done.

This long exposure makes it look like the wheel is spinning very fast! Is it going to fly off? It's an interesting effect and makes for a colourful and attractive shot.

Hello Sarju,

Well i see that 3 secondes are a good choice for this kind of image. I am fan about the night long exposure, and you succeed to do it with your A75, the quality of image looks very impressive especially for the noise.

Ciao Sarju. This was never going to be an easy picture from that close range and with such intense light. However you captured the ferris wheel really well. But in my opinion that stall on the left is omitting way too much light and is distracting. Couldn't you have used an alternative angle to avoid it? Anyway it is a good image. I especailly like the blurred people going about their bussines.

I have to say, that you have superb long exposures shots in your gallery and it was difficult to choose one (in time, may be I will get to all of them...). The shots of CNE 2005, are my favorite, I think, although the ones in the highway are very good as well. It's amazing the result of only 3 seconds! The speed efect on that wheel is very impressive and the ghosts of people in several levels of defenition are very, very nice! Great fair atmosphere. Great shot!
