Photographer’s Note

This is a follow up to my pics "Wedding under Maman" in a way. This is Maman-- a looming, mammoth steel sculpture of a female spider by Louise Bourgeois, over 30 feet high, here taken from below from the side of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. Maman protects her eggs (made of white marble) housed in her steel cage of a womb from which 8 slender yet fear-inducing steel legs are spreading down to our direction, to the ground. I was standing there for a long time, feeling fear, awe, and also marvel over the great sculpture itself.

looks like a spider! Is it supposed to, you mentioned its protecting its eggs!

Looks like a scry place to be! but a great photo you have managed to capture from underneath it!

I'm looking to it since a few minutes, scrolling it up and down on my screen...
An unusual piece of art, presented in an unusual way.
I gues the POV makes it, with the cloudy sky as background. I try to imagine it with blue sky - surely less scary.
The legs, longer and longer, reaching to the ground right near to me - uhh...
Did you thought about B/W?

You do like this kind of pov !!
It's strange because it seems there is the same statue in Bilbao, near the Guggenheim museum !
Whatever, a good compo.

I saw this statue in London's Tate modern gallery some 3 or 4 years ago... The effect from the picture is still the same as then... It gives me the creeps!! Well captured!

I love Louise Bourgeois! I found this theme and interesting the way everybody see it...
Great POV, metal against the blue sky...
