End of the day Photo

Photographer’s Note

Took this picture at the end of the day, the sun was setting down on the opposite side and lightning sporadically the mountain. It was changing rapidly with a different scenario depending on the side I was looking.

This is a view of Mont St-Hilaire on the southshore of Montreal, just on the other side of Richelieu River with treathening weather looking eastward.

This is my first picture with my new D70s wich I bought last thursday, I've tried it once earlier this year from my friend and it was a question of time, the feeling is incredible. I'll for sure keep my G3 it is a marvelous camera but just different. So this is my decisive moment ! I am now in the learning process, so any advise will be appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Moody & atmospheric. I like the glimpse of the verdant, green, shore, far across the river, which contrasts with its drab surrounds. Tres bon!

Hi Pierre, Congrats to your new camera. I got one a month a go. I have mainly use Aperture-priority (A), Speed-priority (S), and P-priority (P, semi-automatic adjust A and S without flash) for all my photos. I have used M-manual for a few also. Most of the time, I use manual ISO for A, S, and M. I use auto ISO for P. When I use P, I set to use auto ISO adjustment. So far, I am happy the result I got. I have to adjust the sharpness from time to time, especially when I have to reduce the picture size for web posting.
I like this soft colored painting alike picture. You have an excellent composition to use the foreground tree framing the picture. The river and the hill provides an nice environment to the small town. Very nice contrast and clarity. Well done.

Bonjour Pierre.Belle prise de vue en cette fin d'après-midi dans un beau cadre et bien cadrée.La lumière est bonne et les couleurs ressortent bien.J'apprécie de voir les feuilles naissantes.Je te souhaite bien du plaisir avec ta nouvelle caméra.Il n'y aura pas de photos d'actualité de mon coté pour quelque temps,ayant envoyé ma caméra en réparation.Encore bravo pour cette réalisaton.

Bonjour Pierre,
Très belle composition d'une fin de journée avec ce ciel lourdement chargé (gonflé de pluie, je suppose). J'aime également la lumière qui vient éclairer avec douceur ces maisons bordant le fleuve.
Je m'aperçois que le D70 donne d'excellents résultats.
Pour ma part, j'utilise toujours le G3, il vient en complément avec le panasonic !

Splendid background with the Mont St-Hilaire, the houses in the middle and the foreground together with it water maken a very nice composition, soft of colour a little dark but very attractive for looking.

Personnellement, j'ai commandé un 350D il y a 3 semaines et la livraison tarde... Je deviens d'ailleurs de + en + impatient. En tout cas, je vois que D70s est sur la marché canadien avant l'Europe (il me semble qu'il est prévu ici pour juin)
En ce qui concerne la photo, on remarque une qualité superbe et de belles couleurs bien que la météo ne semble pas vraiment favorable. Bravo!

Felicitations a l'heureux nouveau possesseur d'un D70, je vois marque D70s l s'agit donc de la toute nouvelle version !
Vue interessante a travers les branches, la lumiere passant entre ls nuages illumine bien les maisons colorees, la montagne procure un bon arriere plan. C'est un bon debut, j'imagine qu'il y a encore beaucoup de travail pour aprivoiser totalement la bete !!!

A marvelous light on the far shore of the river, Pierre, where the settlement is 'peeking' between the trees. Spring is definitely on it's way although the sky looks dark - this is what we call 'April weather', as you're at the same time able to see the sun shining on the top of the mountain, creating nice contrasts both in colors and light. Very well done - and good luck with your new D70.

En effet tout a fait d'accord avec toi. La sensation au touché de cette appareil est incroyable. Et aujourd'hui encore, je suis épaté par sa vitesse d'allumage : tu l'allume et dans la fraction de seconde tu "shoots". Personnellement, je trouvais qu'il avait une tendance à sous-exposer au début. Après renseignement, je te rassure ce n'est pas dû au capteur, qui n'a rien à envier à ses concurrents sur le plan qualitatif, mais au réglage de la balance des tons qui a été diminué de 1/2 stops par les ingénieurs. Mais heureusement Nikon a pensé à tout : Il est possible de totalement redéfinir la courbe de la balance des tons. J'ai donc remplacé celle d'origine avec une faite par mes propres soins : Le résultat est franchement excellent.

Concernant ce 1ère essai, (au vu des photos suivantes dans ta galerie avec ton D70s), il paraît un peu fade : Les couleurs, la netteté et contrastes ne sont pas encore au top. Mais maintenant que tu commences à le maîtriser je pense que tu accepteras mieux ma critique. Cet appareil ne préformate pas l'image comme un compact autofocus, il "photographie" comme tu as pensé l'image. Et chaque contexte photographique (luminosité, plan, mouvement) nécessite une réflexion sur le réglage à adopter (maîtrise dont je suis encore loin d'avoir atteint); et c'est pour ça qu'il nécessite un temps d'apprentissage plus long, mais le plaisir en est d'autant plus grand ;)
