Photographer’s Note

This amazing building sits on the Southwestern edge of Vieux Montréal. From the outside, it doesn't look terribly unusual, except for the brightly-colored panes of glass along the side facing Rue Jeanne-Mance. Inside the building, it's a paradise for photographers. Unfortunately, the day I arrived at the building (my last day in Montreal this trip -- bummer) they were disassembling some kind of trade show, and weren't allowing anyone on the upper floors, so I was stuck in the lobby. Even so, in the space of ten minutes or so, I took nearly fifty shots that (I thought) all had some merit. I narrowed those down to a little over twenty that I'll keep (some were too similar to others, etc.). I'll post a few of the others here and on TrekLens. I wanted to stay longer, but I was trying to walk to the Habitat '67 before sunset (an impossible task, I discovered), and it was already nearly 6:00 PM.

This shot is of the escalators (that I wasn't allowed to use) and the illuminated girders behind it. There are guards stationed just out of sight. The light shines through the colored panes and illuminates the interior, transforming everything with its variegated color palette.

The angle I used, and the zoom lens, caused some barrel distortion, so I used Photoshop's Transform tools to straighten the lines out, then I adjusted the levels, and sharpened and resized the image before uploading it.
