Afternoon Reflections Photo

Photographer’s Note

Photo was taken Downtown Toronto late September afternoon (just before sunset). This is an old Court House which is part of the Old Toronto City Hall.

They turn the water fountains off in the evening, so the water is calm and the reflections are smooth. The arches above the pond actually hold lamps that illuminate the scene at night. Normally this place is humming with crowds of people, but this afternoon I got lucky.

Equipment:
Olympus C-4000Z 4MP digital camera zoomed out to a wide angle. Velbon Tripod. SM card. (unfortunately I do not remember the shutter speed and aperture).

Postprocessing in PS 7:
- cropped and resized
- cloned out some dirt in the bottom part of the reflection
- bosted colour and saturation
- used levels adjustment layer to tone down the brighter top part
- sharpened

Hi Nella and welcome to TE.
This is a lovely image - very sharp and with that great mixture of warm sandstone and blue. The composition is also very appealing with the reflected, steel coloured curves making an oyster shape to contrast the square and pointed buildings.
A minor point, but I find the perspective distortion of the tower block a little distracting. I thought perhaps a little Post Processing (PP) work to pull out this distortion would help, so I've done a workshop.
Oh! I see you've not enabled workshops. Was that intentional?

Nella, your first entry is very beautiful. This is a great photograph of Toronto's city Hall. Here you are looking away and the reflection of the sunset gives the old court house a beautiful colour. Great job..

I clicked on this thumbnail straight away! The combination of those geometric reflections and strong colours make this photo very eye-catching.
