I wish I posted photos more often on TE, I still have so many scenes from Europe and Chicago to share. Guess it will just have to wait but i'll get to them eventually.
In the mean time, my girlfriend and I spent the weekend on an overnight hike. This hike is called Wedgemount.
At only 7km in length or about 4 miles, its not that long. However its rated as one of the most difficult hikes in the entire province of British Columbia!
I wasn't 100% in belief of that until now. I've hiked 30 km hiking trails in 1 day that were much easier than this one. Wedgemount is almost a total vertical climb in 7km, with an even more insane steep section for the last 1km of large boulders. Very dangerous to navigate, especially coming down, very easy to go tumbling down the mountain onto those boulders.
There were many people whom we met along the way up, who said they were coming back down because it was just too steep.
Needless to say Wedgemount earned my respect!!
The payoff in the end is the Wedgemount Glacier and mountains. I'll be showing you some scenes of that in the next day or so as well.
What's great about this place is that it's only 2 hours from my front door :)
The photo you see here is in the morning after camping out, but in the WS i'll add a shot of the climate when we arrived in the evening.
thanks for looking
As our TE friend John (tyro) has mentioned to me about TE's image quality, this image i loaded on TE seems blurry. What's with TE and its image quality!!! its so frustrating!!!!! I even made sure its the correct size. Please open the image in a different window if you want the real version.

Hi, Craig, my neighbor again,
I am surprised with so nice soft colors of this North region. What do you mean? I like this quality, don't worry ;) I see you are full of energy and free time for travelling around your country too.
Thanks for so interesting report.

From what you say, this might be a fairly short hike but it sounds a very challenging one and not a trip for the faint hearted. I'm sure it tested those ligaments in your previously injured knee to the limits so I hope they held out and that you're no longer suffering from any after effects.
You've given us two lovely and very impressive shots here. I love the thick mist in your workshop picture: it's a fine shot but your main picture really has to be my favourite of the two.
The orange topped tent on the right draws attention as it sits amidst what looks like glacial moraine and it nicely balances the view of the distant mountains and their stunning reflections on the smooth blue-green water of the lake.
The light and colours are glorious, your composition excellent and the details and sharpness (when viewed, as you advise, at "proper" size) are exquisite.

Beautiful natural environment!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, chosen pov, slim black borders and composition are all excellent!
A place I'd love to visit!
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your week,

A terrific scenery and a fantastic light. I like the balance of colors between the turquoise lake, the dark green grass and the orange "roof" of the tent. I may not personally have found this worth that dreadful and potentially dangerous trek (especially going down which is usually a lot worse), but I am impressed by your and your girlfriend's strenght and stamina. Obviously your leg is much better now.
willperrett (11664) 2014-08-18 8:38
What a way to get there, but what a place when you've made it! Extraordinary scenery and the lake in particular is beautiful. I think including the camp was the right decision, though I did wonder about that: it adds relevance, especially allied to your note.

voici une magnifique photo d'un paysage de montagnes.
Les couleurs et la présence du lac et ses eaux turquoises sont superbes. L'effort est récompensé...
Gerrit (52139) 2014-08-18 9:27
what a fantastic spot with the lake and the mountains to put your tent and be away from everything.
Excellent composition in beautiful colors.
ktanska (28729) 2014-08-18 10:41
Great looking rough mountain landscape. Although not much growing there, this has so many other elements. Green toned glacier lake, gravel fields and bare mountain faces. And even a glacier. I din't know (or remember) that you can find such in Whistler region.
This reminds Way's Himalayan views, and still is so much easier to reach, especially for you.
It's not the right size for the best possible image quality. For some reason TE resizes pictures to 790 pixels, and yours is 800 pixels wide. Such resize means interpolation of almost every singe pixel for TE view.
(That said, on this case TE view looks on my screen good, and your original slightly oversharp. And to make things more complicated, Internet Explorer shows it less sharp than Firefox.)
ikeharel (76145) 2014-08-18 11:36
A magnificent mountains scenery, not blured at all, Craig, and the water turquoise color is just stunning.
Excelent POV chosen, parted the image with 2/3 on side for water, and surround by the barren land.
As for what you had written: I try to upload pic.s with max size of 1000+/- KB. Loading a high number KB's on the site - automatically reduce to same size posting, than you might loose quality, and usually with "grains". However if upload a lower KB pic., the actual pic. on the site would be a bit "washed".
To conclude, by miss & try, came to avarage of 1000kb as flexible size to post photos.
Hope that helpful.
Best regards, the picture is overwhelming.

What better way to top off a good hard hike than with a beautiful photographic result, nd this is a beauty, it looks like you have found a lake made of pure jade. This s an amazing scene. And a color of water that I honestly have never seen before. The whole way you composed this is class, and the clouds in top left are like fluffy daytime fireworks erupting ove the jade lake. Looking forward to seeing m posts from here.

You are right about seeing a better quality in Beta but I wonder how many people know how to access Beta! The right click instruction doesn't work for me and maybe lots of other people ... fortunately, I do have a link to Beta.
After your frighteningly-steep climb, this was the least you deserved in terms of a view, but it is spectacular! There is a fine division between the vegetated area, the rugged, weather-eroded rocks and the jade green pool. The details of all are well captured and the light magic! I particularly like the soft reflections in the pool.
My warm regards,
Giustiniani (3632) 2014-08-18 13:24
superbe photo, les couleurs et la lumière sont magnifiques. Une impression de fraîcheur, un sentiment de calme et de pureté se dégagent de cet endroit.
chawax (20760) 2014-08-18 13:27
It's right quality is a lot better when you open the picture in a new tab ! It looks I have no such problems with my pictures, I upload them with a 1,500 pixels size, maybe you should try a bigger size than just 800 pixels ;) Anyway it looks a hard hike to do but it worths it, the landscape is very beautiful. And a lot better on sunny weather of course ! Excellent POV, very good colours.
Have a nice week,
williewhistler (16412) 2014-08-18 13:51
crikey that is impressive, not only the climb but the difference between the scene upon your arrival and this cracking shot taken the next day.
The rugged hills are complemented by the turquoise waters of the lake whilst those wispy clouds add their magic to an awesome scene.
All the best Les.

I hear the many stories about Malgo being full of energy and always on the go, and it would seem you're definitely not far behind....just can't sit still for too long, eh? :) With the places you've been and the pictures taken, I'm sure you could easily be posting for years on end before even making another adventure out....and that's pretty darn cool!
Your perseverance and determination to make it here sure paid off, what a beauty spot. That turquoise water looks kind of mysterious, almost milky...but oh so sweet. I'm not a big hiker, and far too out of shape to be trying anything of this sort, but I'd sure love to spend some time here....think you could just helicopter me in instead? :)
And how crazy that the things so close to us are always the ones that take so long to get to?? *Ahem* the Grand Canyon is eyeballin' me. lol Looking forward to seeing more from this journey. Yep, your knee must be back to kickin' butt and takin' names! :) Have a good one Monsieur Trekker.
Cheers from the other end of the spectrum, the desert.
asajernigan (21427) 2014-08-18 18:19
This is an amazing photo! The lake is great with a fine reflection and good coloring. The tents add nice contrast to the rugged nature of the landscape. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has fine sharpness and detail.
jemaflor (101321) 2014-08-18 23:28
Lovely view very well taken and presented, nice result for the water with reflections, nice brightness and of course great landscape, tfs.
jjcordier (79297) 2014-08-18 23:44

I guess the old "biscuit & cheese" is getting better if you can manage a hike old chap. What a beautiful place to, well when to fog clears eh? Looks a bit rocky to sleep on without a mattress though. Amazing adventure I bet.
As for image quality, I do not understand what is wrong with the way this site works, other sites I post on do not have the squeezing issues that exit here. I have taken to posting 1200 px wide landscape images they seem to be less de-graded at that size. I still cannot access the forums but feel that they are not doing this planet justice by making the image quality inferior. The blasted adverts with sound also p*ss me off big time too!
Regards - B.
photoray (13981) 2014-08-19 6:42
Glad you made it to the end of the trail for this fine view of Wedgemount, the powder blue glacial erosion lake surrounded by the craggy mountains, high above the tree line.
adramad (48426) 2014-08-19 8:46
Wow ..... the pure nature, only three tents, the scenery is spectacular, with a great beauty, with those rocky mountains and blue-green color of the water, the difference with the photo of WS is like seeing the heads and tails of the place, despite the hike to get, makes up the end.
An image to enjoy with its beautiful color, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Very well done.
Have a happy day.
mesutilgim (96744) 2014-08-19 12:08
Hello dear Craig,
Wonderfull capture of this majestic scenery with good pov and layout.

Nice mountain landscape with fantastic light and a little mist. Beautiful reflections in the water peaks.
Excellent sharpness and the overall technical features.
For me superb!

You don't need to travel to Iceland when you have this at your backdoor. What a location. Terrific photo.
Somehow though I would prefer your workshop as the main photo and this one to show the location.
mkamionka (39533) 2014-08-20 5:24
this is so beautiful, I have seen your or Tosca's photos from this hike on FB already. It is truly jaw-dropping and with your usual high quality it works really impressive. I like the greenish color of the water and a combination of clarity with reflection -so unusual, so beautiful effect. Great sky as well on top of it. Excellent light. I can't believe it is so close to you and you first went to Iceland before going here! I am so jealous you have such beautiful spots around.
worldcitizen (9178) 2014-08-20 16:07
You and Tosca really seem to like these punishing adventures! I would never make it. :-) The color of the water is very interesting; it almost has a milky look to it, too. Great scenery, with the mountains in the background, and a split view of the water and the ground in front.
emka (104216) 2014-08-21 0:39
Hi Fantastic place for a weekend in the tent on the lake. If it is so steep I would probably not go there. But it is worth all the effort. I would be happy to wake in such a place. Amazing milky water.
Warm regrad s Malgo
Cricri (123740) 2014-08-23 5:59
Un paysage magnifique, une belle récompense après tant d'effort!!, j'aime les couleurs, les reflets, pour celle en WS, et bien il vaut être bien réveillé sinon bonjour la chute, impressionnant toute cette brume
delpeoples (59434) 2014-08-24 16:42
I saw this beautiful place on yours and Tosca's Instagram, but this photo does it a lot more justice. Wow, what a place. Certainly worth the knee-breaking hike up there eh? I just love the colours of that glacial lake. There's nothing like that colour in the entire world and it's something I've only ever seen in New Zealand. Fantastic perspective and compositional skills here. I know what you're saying about the sharpness here on TE. They need to do something about that. To me, the photo is immaculate regardless of technical problems.
PS: Sorry I've been TEBO and AWOL. Had a good laugh with T over the size of your tent. Jesus, all I can hope is that you weren't eating baked beans, otherwise no need for internal heating ;)
kordinator (21521) 2015-03-07 7:35
Very beautiful photos made in Canada.
Beautiful unspoiled nature with all its beauty.
The colors are impressive.
Wonderful reflection on the water.
The tents are nice details.
Photo from the workshop with the fog is also very beautiful and interesting.
