As much as we all enjoy traveling here on TE, sometimes there's nothing quite like taking a walk in and around your own home town.
This section of English Bay doesn't get the recognition as other parts of Vancouver such as Stanley Park or Granville Island, but its just as beautiful.
I wish I had a funny or interesting story to share about this moment or scene, but its just me walking around on the rocks looking for a unique composition.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do
Beverley made a comment about the tiny person by the water. That tiny looking person is actually Tosca.
She's trying to photograph a leaf in the water.
Clearly, we enjoy vastly different types of scenes! But thats ok :)

Une bonne prise qui donne de la profondeur à l'image. C'est une belle réussite.
Amitiés et bonne journée.

You are my neighbour, today!
I honestly think that when you are 'at home', you connect really well with the environment. Maybe it's knowledge of the area, maybe it's relaxation because you know you can come at any time to show the place in it different lights and seasons.
This is, for me, a great shot. I love how you have included the highly textured rocks, revealed in light or partial shade, for immediate f/g impact and, then as a most effective lead into the deeper picture.
The light and reflections in the pool are so attractive and, we have, I think, a tiny person to focus upon.
Have a lovely day,

I agree with Beverley about being relaxed in your own environment. It is true that you can capture it at its best time and there is no rush in it. Also this picture looks very well planned and I cannot imagine better POV. The big stones lined in some kind of rocky path serve as a fantastic foreground which naturally leads an eye further into composition. And Tosca crouching at the water adds very discreet human factor ;-)
Lovely quality. The colors and light have been managed perfectly.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day

Hello Craig ,
What an excellent composition ! With your usual wide angle . I like especially the perspective through the rocky dike , the lateral light , teh sky and the fine reflections .

Ciao e buona giornata

The directionality in this shot is super! I love the way the clouds, the foreground rocks, even the roofs of the high rise all point to that rounded peak- well seen and wonderfully composed. I often think half the battle is to photograph our own surroundings and continue to strive to see and present them in new and interesting ways- much more difficult than when we travel to exotic and unfamiliar locations which comes with its own set of challenges :)
Thanks for sharing, have a great week

Hello Craig - Vancouver is such a stunning city with so many photo opportunities to keep you exploring. I envy you that.
This is a lovely shot and I find several aspects pleasing. The colour palette is subtle and attractive and I note the rocks and shoreline echo one another creating harmony against which the blue sky contrasts well. The light is gentle and the reflections add a little brilliance and I find the diagonals created by the rocks, shore line, buildings and clouds really good.
snunney (107513) 2014-04-23 2:28
I like the low point of view here and the way the buildings more or less reduce in height going from right to left. The light is most agreeable and the colours pleasant and natural. The lovely sky also contributes toward the overall success of the image. Thanks for sharing.

i like this urban composition with so many interests.i like the frame division and the light and specially the man sitting beside the water body.
macondo (19806) 2014-04-23 3:31
An attractive view, Craig, well composed with the lens close to the man-laid rocks catching the Spring sun and making shadows. You also have nice radiating clouds, shimmering reflection and the all-important human figure. End result, a fine shot with strong perspective and a great suggestion of space.

Great shot! Well composed with great Fg from the rocks that also lead our eye into the shot. Really cool how he tower blocks have been reflected in the water and a fantastic sky to finish it off too. The usual skillfully deployed high dynamic range betraying your expertise in such things too!

Ta collection de photos de ta ville est vraiment magnifique. Tu as réussi à trouver un nouveau cadrage original de cet endroit. Beau travail!

la strada di pietre è un confine perfetto tra le architetture a destra e la natura che si estende a sinistra.
Composizione bellissima e ottima messa a fuoco.

always impressed by the number of ways you can produce yet another beautiful image of Vancouver. This is another cracker - love the POV and the gloriously inviting composition. Wonderful!
Regards - B.
Cannot wait to see your take on Santorini!

J'aime beaucoup le point de vue très bas qui force à suivre la lignes de rochers dans l'image pour aller toujours plus loin vers les immeubles. Comme toujours cette lentille donne des résultats d'une grande profondeur.

The rocks, houses and clouds cooperate very well to give this composition very good depth. It's a quiet but rather dynamic view, and the good llight and contrasts create a vigorous atmosphhere. Will we be able to see Tosca's leaf on TrekNature?
Kielia (24077) 2014-04-23 8:11
this is a stunning photo. Superb light and detail combined with your all encompassing composition show off the fascination of the location to perfection. My compliments also for the notes!

A fine combination here of the big rocks and the high buildings behind. I read an article here about Vancouver and how Gothenburg could learn from your city planning. Gothenburg is unfortunately a very segregated city and should find out how Vancouver has apparently avoided all the problems we have here.

Hello Craig, great view of the city with road rock, beautifully captured in this beautiful photograph. Interesting picture with good depth, good sharpness, nice light, color and quality. Nice good job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good afternoon and happy rest of the week.
Best wishes from southern Spain.

Great shot of the rocks and the city skyline.Vibrant colors and excellent sharpness.TFS.

Craig, this looks like an interesting if difficult place to walk. You chose a great view for the shot, starting with the clouds that come out of the horizon into the center of the image. The low POV makes the rock pier seem longer than it probably is, which enhances the feeling of the shot as well. Nicely seen. Thanks.

Ciao Craig, fantastic composition with fascinating reflections, great exposure, excellent clarity, splendid light and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Nice lead-in to this scene with all of the rocks. It's also nice that the water was there on the shore to provide some reflections - and a view of tiny Tosca. ;-) It looks like another cool place to live, and you got a great sky, too.
jemaflor (103729) 2014-04-24 23:48
excellent composition well balanced between Fg and the view of these buildings, great light on these stones on the Fg, well captured.

Yeah I know what you mean, home is where the heart is, as they say. A beautiful shot, the HDR is as it should be - subtle - and I love the glassy reflections and how they contrast with the beautiful clouds in the sky. The luminous blue tones are simply magical. Hope you're not working too hard, have a great weekend. Just back from post-cyclone North Queensland, what a place.
emka (107889) 2014-04-25 23:36
Hi Craig, Fantastic perspective of this stone way, it would be fun to walk on them. And how nice to see Tosca, even so small. I wonder what photos she made from this position. Superb composition.
I can imagine how excited you are about your coming trip. And I am looking forward to my excursion too, although I returned not long time ago. Have a great weekend.

Beautiful and pleasant-looking urban environment!
Very attractive picture of it!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, slim black borders, copntrasts, chosen pov and composition are all excellent photo qualities that really pleased me here too!
TFS - congrats,

Hi Craig. Nice exposure, great use of the shapes and "waves"of the rocks which in colour match the buildings.Excellent DOF. Regards. Klaudio.

Fantastic Pov, leading us in over these sea defence boulders and onto the sky-rises of Vancouver. So much to see and admire, the young lady at the pools edge gives this image a thoughtful and calm mood of chilling by the seaside..
Ps, just read your note, who the young lady was.
jcpix (13950) 2014-07-01 19:45
I forgot to mention it in my previous comments, so I thought I had best right myself and wish you a Happy Canada Day! And what better way to do that...than with a picture from your fine country. :)
You're absolutely right too, sometimes it is simply best to walk around in your own back yard to find the most interesting and opportunistic shots. Definitely a nice view here along the shoreline, and very well timed to catch this kind of light. Not to mention, the wide angle really brings out the clouds to be an integral part of the imagery.
O.K. enough technical stuff, go out and enjoy the holiday evening! Have a good one, but not so much it gets you locked up. hehe
Cheers from your neighbor to the South,
ikeharel (79281) 2016-11-22 23:10
Saw this one long ago, managed to find it swiftly for a critique.
Sometimes, a place close to home can be a surprising POV that you had not think about it before - that what's I can see here. Nicely combined with the town buildings and the breakwater of rocks on the FG.
Nice humor about the "tiny-person" added to the note... ha ha.
Have a nice new day, well you are at midnight now.
