Even though this photo was taken almost 4 years ago, I really wanted to post it because its been a long time since i posted a true Blue Hour photo.
Personally, I get alot of relaxation and zen-like benefits from shooting these types of scenes. There's no panic, no hurry, you can just set up your tripod capture the evening light as it passes by.
Hope you like it

Une très belle photo à l'heure bleue.
L'architecture avec son miroitement est superbe.

Blue-hour par-excellence, Craig.
Admirable sight on the waterfront, mirror effect of the high-rise buildings in their evening illuminations.
Well collected perspective.

wow..two Vancouver in one picture, not bad:) I regret that i was not more active with my camera when i visited your hometown, especially when i see this nice shot! (I was probably in a pub during the blue hour:))Your 15 seconds exposure made the water soft like silk and the lights from the skyscrapers create a somehow cosy atmosphere. A nice shot and a good inspiration for my own future blue hour shots.
Ninello52 (7576) 2014-03-11 14:22
This is also very nice! Fantastic reflections (how did you achieve the effect of moving?) Very good!
Best Regards, Nino.

Why you waited so long to post it? The view of these sky scapers in blue hour is magnificent. Marvelous reflections. Amazing all these lights.

Très bonne photo nocturne à l'heure bleue avec un bel effet créé par les reflets des bâtiments. Du très beau travail!
jemaflor (98793) 2014-03-12 0:06
Wonderful, perfect lights and reflections capture, impressive result with this blue hour shot, well managed, bravo !
willperrett (11108) 2014-03-12 1:16
I agree with you about shooting in the evening: you set up leisurely, and make half a dozen images over half an hour as the light changes and fades, and then go for a beer... This is a lovely scene where the reflections are the vital defining element.
krzychu30 (15512) 2014-03-12 1:37
I think I don´t have to tell you how much I love such views:)
So I´ll just say-it´s splendid blue hour shot and really fabulous combination of natural blue tones and yellow artificial lights. And of course the reflections also contributes significantly to the succes of your shot.
saxo042 (37900) 2014-03-12 3:02
Beautiful reflections in the absolutely smooth water surface. The illuminations of these impressive high-rises are very fine against the dark blue sky. A beautiful skyline.
holmertz (54385) 2014-03-12 3:24
It's kind of funny to see the photo information: 15 seconds, tripod:YES. This is a fine "snap" of 15 seconds of evening light passing by, with not even a ripple in the water during that time. A perfectly quiet evening with all the exciting lights of a big city.
Royaldevon (39802) 2014-03-12 3:45
Home is where the heart is!
This is a fine blue hour shot.
The artificial light makes patterns on the skyscrapers, which are then artistically reflected in the water.
Satisfying to take; satisfying to gaze at.
Have a great day,

wonderfully accomplished blue hour shot this. Love the jewel like quality of the buildings here and made all the more effective when in front of calm waters. Excellent!

une superbe vue à l'heure bleue avec un très beau reflet dans le plan d'eau. Un ensemble architectural magnifiquement mis en valeur.
Kamilutka (8107) 2014-03-12 8:17
similar picture to the one before yet so different thanks to the colors and light. The blue hour light works very well for this scene and makes it maybe even more interesting than night photo. I love the reflections on the water and lovely shades of blue on the sky.
SnapRJW (31629) 2014-03-12 9:58
I relate to what you say here Craig about the total control and involvement in setting up a shot with a tripod. It is relaxing. No massive rush to catch a fleeting moment. The result echos the process, particularly in this instance with the rich calming colours and reflections. A fine piece of work. Warm regards Rosemary

Hi there Zen Master,
Ahh yes, the true beauty of pictures like this is the slow and easy method it takes to achieve...just sit back and let the camera do all the work. :) Well, now you have me second guessing your previous skyline picture. I thought I preferred the completely blackened sky, but now I'm not so sure.
The bands of blue, particularly the lighter layer in between, really sets an interesting tone for this shot...kinda' "Gotham-like," and I love how the reflection is a deeper version. Really cool study in contrasting light conditions, both holding their own in terms of appeal. Awesome results, can't go wrong with either one! Have a good one buddy. Take it easy.

On pictures are almost never a date to find, a lot years ago makes you a very good picture this is very important.
Your reflections are wonderful, with fanrastic light and colours.
You create a wonderful depth and perspective picture
Excellent archtecture picture too.
Wonderful composition, excellent presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
worldcitizen (8818) 2014-03-13 9:14
Great reflections, the blue hour sky, and a classic Vancouver view all combine to create another signature "macjake" photo. :-) I like it when the city lights start to appear right after dusk. The lighted window look like jewels.
Didi (60588) 2014-03-13 9:20
Blue hour is the best moment for town pictures
Very nice reflections on the water
Well done for the lights control

"Zen-like benefits"- Gawd you crack me up! I'm glad you get some tranquillity out of shots like this, I do too, either when I take them or when I look at those of others. So thanks, I think my BP is down to 120/60 and all is good with the world. Beautiful blue and black tones and of course the fact that we get 2 for the price of 2 in that perfect symmetry is a bonus.
Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend
chawax (20758) 2014-03-15 11:04
Nice blue hour shot. The skyscrapers are a good subject for that and moreover you are lucky having them reflecting in the water in Vancouver.
mkamionka (37879) 2014-03-15 14:27
I agree with you that shooting photos like this gives a lot of satisfaction but occasionally there are other feelings as well: sometimes when I am alone I am a bit afraid that someone will his me from behind :) another problem: sometimes my wife and/or child are waiting for me so there is stress involved that I have to hurry up... as they are freezing.
But in the ideal world that would be indeed a way to meet the God. The best form of prayer or something like that.
Beautiful photo. Amazing reflection. I like very much the pattern in the sky with the white fragment in between dark blue layers. It is literally and figuratively a highlight here!
It is a real master piece, it is pleasure to watch it, and it motivates me to come back to this amazing passion again (as I have not done it for a while either).

Ah, such a lovely VC-scene. Excellent night shot with superb sharpness and a very nice mirror effect of the calm water. You are making this busy urban scene into a tranquil and peaceful scene with wonderful hues. Thanks.

Hi, my friend Craig,
this is a wonderful blue hour capture, where you've played elegantly with the nice image of these buildings, its lighting, its contrast with the still blue sky at late afternoon, and of course, with the splendid reflections of the ensemble on the water as a mirror.
I like the final result of your work, this is a superb shot, perfectly executed.
adores (45717) 2014-04-11 14:11
It's a little different from your previous one but it's also a very good shot, thanks to the blue sky. You got a beautiful sky and reflection. The exposure is perfect!
