I'm disappointed to learn that the city of Vancouver isn't putting on any major display of Fireworks for New Years Eve! How sad is that! I was really looking forward to capturing some firework photography tonight!
Instead, I decided to look through my gallery to find at least some sort of Winter Seasonal photo, and a photo that brought back fond memories from 2012.
Here we have a true Canadian landscape, captured in or around the city of Squamish. I know you won't know where Squamish is, the closest famous area would be the World renowned ski resort Whistler. Whistler is only about a 30 min drive from here.
Great memories from this hike, a hike called Panorama Ridge. I swear it almost killed me :) It was 30km long! But you're rewarded with breath taking views when you reach the top.
Happy New Year to everyone, and lets all hope for lots of traveling and lots of good photos!

No, you're right, I didn't know where Squamish was - but I do now! Looking at this lovely picture, my guess is that you were somewhere very near the red cross here when you took this one. Am I right?
A beautiful landscape view with glorious colours, perfect exposure and your usual exquisite detail and sharpness. Which just goes to show that you are every bit as good at taking landscape pictures as you are with architectural photography. Beautiful British Columbia indeed!
My Very Best Wishes to you and Tosca for a Wonderfully Happy, Healthy and Prospsperous New Year!

a cracking picture to end the year on. 30kms is one hell of a hike, though if the scenery is all like this it would certainly be worth it. this is a superb composition with an interesting foreground leading to the lake and then the fantastic mountain to the right providing a great focal point. the snow capped mountains in the distance are stunning and help frame a beautiful landscape image.
happy new year craig, and best wishes for 2013,

Hi craig, we have already new year, you must still waiting a few hours wonderful place for hiking with really breath taking views. Indeed, this us how I imagine Canada. Mountains, forests and lakes. 30 km it is rather a lot! But wrth the effort with this landcape and photos. New year's hugs to you and Tosca
delpeoples (55380) 2012-12-31 19:10
Dear Craig, Tosca and Scooby
Well I know you're not there yet, but wish you every happiness in 2013. How will you be celebrating? Sorry to hear Vancouver screwed you out of the fireworks, but when I think that ours cost $6 million, the Canucks aren't so silly. This is a magnificent panorama, just what I think of when I think of Canada. It seems to unspoilt and wild. Love the colours, the depth and those clouds. Wow, with this on your doorstep, why would you ever leave?
Big hugs to you all -and to Scooby - "wooffy woof" which means "you can have all the bikkies you want"
PS: I took your advice - as did 1.5 million other Syd-Maniacs - and have some very ordinary photos and a huge hangover to prove it. Will post them as soon as the room stops spinning...

Hello, beautiful landscape photo. I think 30 km translates to about 15 miles. That is a long hike in one day. Evidently it was worth it by the gorgeous views of the mountains. Perfect exposure. Great composition.
cargus (9602) 2012-12-31 22:31
In my opinion I think you chose a good angle for this picture, with an interesting framing, clarity and contrast of the mountains especially, good combination between brightness and color contrast
jjcordier (79275) 2012-12-31 22:37
Un superbe paysage magistralement photographié avec ton grand angle.
Je te souhaite une année 2013 la plus heureuse possible où tu continueras de nous offrir toutes ces belles photos qui font notre bonheur.

a very happy new year to you to, may it bring joy, happiness and lots of travels to you.
This is an amazing landscape, so wide and unspoiled. Well worth the toils of a heavy hike. I just love that mountain to the right with the deep blue lake in front of it.
Greetings from Switzerland and now I am off for skiing ..

Perfect work full of beautiful colors.
I wish you and your family all the best for the new year 2013.

Maybe the lack of fireworks worked in our favour for, otherwise, you would not have shared this breathtakingly beautiful shot of Canada. The difficulty in getting there was certainly worth the effort!
You have acieved a great sense of depth as the eyes sweep across the f/g, the lake, the gret mountains and eventually rest on the snowcapped mountains. The sky responds to the scene with those delightful cloud swirls, acting as guides to the landscape.
My good wishes to you and Tosca for 2013 and I look forward to seeing more of your shots,

Wonderful wide view.

Happy New Year Craig,
A magnificent vista and such a shame it came a such a potential cost to your health :) Hopefully you are fully recovered and ready to head out in search of equally beautiful scenery. I like the way you have given such an expanse of stunning blue sky which really emphasises the wide open space. It feels like we could almost step right into the foreground.
Have a great 2013 filled with happy pictures
abmdsudi (47766) 2013-01-02 19:53
Nice both in the image and words Craig. It's just one nice one after another! A classic shot and mood throughout with the blue lake has featured as a distant focal point and still has quite an impact in the landscape. There's always so much detail in your picture that gives the eye so much to explore, the fg foreground pulls the eye in and wonderful sky, love how the lines of clouds seem to be streaming out of the distance. This is superb and stronger image, wonderfully atmospheric image. Congrats.
SnapRJW (31627) 2013-01-03 3:01
Happy New Year Craig - A very fine landscape with such interesting terrain and contrasts. The glacial scree looks harsh and barren and yet we see lovely pockets of verdant green grass and stands of conifers. Magical sky too and I note the clouds ;) Beautiful! Warm regards Rosemary

Even if the city is the one of a kind beautiful Vancouver! What an amazing view and mountains!
Top of the line exceptional picture!!!
kato (11630) 2013-01-11 17:04
You're capturing well this landscape by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the mountains with loose slope and snow, and small blue lake. Here looks like a good place for relax. And, the beautiful sky draws out an additional good atmosphere in this image.
