Photographer’s Note
Looking north from the first peak of the Squamish Chief. Composed of a chain of three peaks, each consecutively harder to get to (read: higher and longer hike) my girlfriend and I only managed the first peak.
I'm not sure what mountain is located in the background, but the city located to the bottom left is Squamish.
Shot with a circular polarizer to darken the sky, red filtered to bring it down further and finally, with a second layer over top of the image set to "overlay" kept on laying on the black (on the sky) with a soft brush until I got the contrast desired. Added touches of extra black to the corners to vignette the frame a little. Like using the overlay method than the dodge/burn tool as those tools also affect the whites and blacks, overlay just messes with the midtones.

Very nice shot here Aki. I like the black-white setting for this shot. Is this Squamish near Vancouver? It has been a while but i thought it is mount Girabaldi or something simular. Brings back good memories. Thanks.

Very nice and original b&w treatment for a somptuous landscape with a great POV. Light and contrast are superb and DOF is perfect. Nicely composed too !
Well done
