Photographer’s Note

Looking from the south side of False creek, along the shores there's often docked or left behind these little one person boats. People live in the yachts seen in the background and every morning the occupants would commute to work with a short little paddle.

One fellow I met received his boat from some stranger who was using theirs as a large planter. With a little bit of patching, it was apparently seaworthy! (well, relatively speaking)

Converted to black and white using the channel mixer (simulating a red filter). Used a second layer overtop set to overlay and painted using a 15% opaque brush with black or white in gimp to brighten the center and darken the rest with a touch extra to add a little bit of vignetting.

I love the simplicity of these boats against the backdrop of the high rise buildings - nice range of tones - will try your approach using channel mixer as well.

Hi Aki, Very well composed image and like the depth of the image considering multiple subjects in place like foreground of grass, well angled boats, sea with its sharp reflections of high rise buildings and boats, Detailed capture of buildings, A glimpse of bridge, Nice cloudy sky. What can i say but this once is Perfectly captured. Good catch!

Great photoshop work. I like that there are buildings behind these empty boats as opposed to a typical scene with just trees or more water. Cool picture.

excellent work on all aspects especially the superb detailing!! the mixer work has resulted in sky tones which are nicely balanced with the rest of the frame. this image could in fact be split into the top and bottom halves to get two equally stunning pics .. so double cheers to you!! this goes straight into my favs list.
